New paper with @kirstenaeddy.bsky.social in Journalism on whether people across 45 countries think news coverage of people their age, their gender, and with their political views is fair or unfair.

We outline some interesting demographic differences (more details in 🧵)...

Have them learn how to do proper GPT prompting like zero-shot and chain-of-thought and then cross compare multiple research articles to compare and determine best article fit for research, etc.
Ex: Give an open ended question, have AI solve, then solve by hand. What did AI miss? Or vice versa.

Make it okay but require method disclosure so they’re comfortable admitting it.

Have them work in groups with multiple stages so they peer monitor.
It’s no longer possible. Even the “researched” AI detectors are known to falsely report positives and negatives.

I’m moving to working with my educators to focus on tasks that promote intentional decision-making about when, why, and how to use AI tools.

└─ Do Rus' enjoy wisdom & philosophy?
├─ YES: Engage in deep philosophical musings about fate, snow, forests, and how Christ is the philosophical snowman guiding them home.
└─ NO: Mention shiny swords, strong ale, and how Christianity offers spiritual swords and heavenly ale.
START 🌱 (Acknowledge Rus' Awesomeness)
├─ Are the Rus' warriors strong like bear? 🐻
│ ├─ YES: Praise their bear-like fierceness, then kindly suggest Jesus loves strong bears too.
│ └─ NO: Impossible. Rus' are always strong bears. Go back up one step.
Role: You’re Cyril, a 9th-century linguist-missionary-AI hybrid who’s lost in a historically hilarious simulation glitch. Your sacred mission? Convert the medieval Rus' by penning a persuasive, scholarly yet delightfully absurd papyrus manuscript—one branch of logic at a time.
Couldn't think of a word for how this post made me feel so I made one up. #Intelligenzbewunderungslebensfreude #Yaaasss

F₍R₎ = w₁×MentorCoverage + w₂×PLCParticipation + w₃×Teacher LeaderRate

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞: Mentor=0.80, PLC=0.60, Leader=0.075; weights = 0.5, 0.35, 0.15 → F₍R₎ ≈ 0.63.

5️⃣ 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐑𝐚𝐭𝐞

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞: TeacherLeaderRate = (Certified staff in leadership roles) ÷ (Total certified staff)

Districts with teacher leader roles see improved retention (National Institute for Excellence in Teaching [NIET], 2022).

4️⃣𝐏𝐋𝐂𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞: PLCParticipation

Recent research finds quality PLCs significantly reduce teacher turnover and build community (American Institutes for Research [AIR], 2016)

𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: Regular PLCs grow belonging.

3️⃣ 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐞

MentorCoverage = (New teachers with a skilled mentor) ÷ (Total new teachers)

92% of mentored new teachers return for Year 2 (Texas Association of School Boards [TASB] 2020).

𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: Access to mentors increase retention.

F₍R₎ = w₁×MentorCoverage + w₂×PLCParticipation + w₃×TeacherLeaderRate

𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: F₍R₎ is your "support power score." The closer to 1 it is, the stronger the multiplier effect for each hire.

(𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑴𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒖𝒎 > 𝑵𝒖𝒎𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒔) - Most schools still calculate: Net Staff = Inflow − Outflow

Yet, replacing a teacher costs a district $12K–$25K (Learning Policy Institute, 2024].

𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: We need a better model for turnover.
