Seriously! And I usually feel no pressure to just hop in and join the conversation. That’s what [I feel] these social media platforms should be like: real social interaction, not just mindless scrolling until something IRL breaks your attention from it or you get bored.

Anyway, yes. I feel a lot less pressure to post whatever I want here because people are usually more open to actually talk here. I’m not just hoping to see numbers go up…I’m looking for real connections. It’s not that I could never get that from Twitter; it’s that it didn’t happen very often.

Numbers are a cool way of quantifying attention (and thus success, as higher numbers are usually a good thing). So when the numbers for something are low, it’s very easy to jump to the conclusion that no one cares…that it “wasn’t worth” liking it. Super false and a trap many of us fall for.

Fully agreed! And look, don’t get me wrong. “See ❤️ number go up” can definitely be intoxicating and a measure of how well a post is doing. But why is that? Is it just human nature to see said number go up & think fondly of real people (hopefully) liking something enough to tap a ❤️-shaped button?
