My Lovely First Wife and I dined out last night, and on one of the big-screen TVs they were showing the Red Bull Soapbox Derby competition. It was an honest efflorescence of the indomitable human spirit, the triumph of hope over gravity, mostly, except for all the falling apart bits. Recommended.

Oh, you swete sumer childe. Our neighborhood gets shut down by the city so we can host 3,800 people for the night. How much fun it is varies year to year. This year was enjoyable!

We had only one "ICE agent" come trick-or-treating last night, a teen. I calmly and pleasantly told him to move along because his costume was not cute, clever, or appropriate, which he did. I was expecting more of them, but he was the only one. (There was a little one, but I let him pass.)

I live in a lovely historic neighborhood, two blocks from the traditional Court Square. Somehow the Halloween Decoratoring™ got out of hand about 10 years ago, and now the city closes off the whole neighborhood so that 3,000+ children can come gawk and gorge on candy. [see also: PorchFest]
