Important point & a very helpful article from Cory Doctorow. I haven’t joined Mastodon- not being very techy, I felt I needed to learn how to use it- another item on a list of outstanding tasks I need to do!

This perhaps perceived barrier vs ease&capture of Bluesky means I need to revisit my list!
i‘m still mostly on Mastodon, running someone.elses.computer auto crossposting here. As Cory Doctorow wrote this month, why should we trust Bluesky, which has not delivered any promised federation? how long before it pivots into singular, enshittified adtech? pluralistic.net/2024/11/02/u...

Finally broken my Bluesky silence. I have got quite used to not speaking on social media- enshitiffication (I love this word!) of various platforms meant I silently opted not to contribute. Never been a chatty person so not sure if this is the start of something, but so far Bluesky seems nice

Years ago a friend bought 23&Me for my birthday. It was a thoughtful gift, being of Jamaican ancestry I’ve wondered about my African ancestry but soon realised giving my DNA to a private company I couldn’t exercise any account of with uncertain results was a terrible idea!
23andMe “hasn’t managed to prove the value of collecting all that sensitive, personal information. And potential buyers may have very different ideas about how to use the company’s DNA data to raise the company’s bottom line. This should concern anyone who has used the service.”
Remember That DNA You Gave 23andMe?
The company is in trouble, and anyone who has spit into one of the company’s test tubes should be concerned.
