I got a rejection notice for a standalone story I pulled from the Matsura novel. It was from a very prestigious literary journal, so I wasn't surprised, but I got a kind personalized comment, which *almost* completely took the sting out of the rejection. 😀

In my novel, #FrankMatsura finds himself in an uncomfortable position. Because of his education, he is given a cushy job at the cannery while his fellow Japanese have to do dirty, grueling work 12 or more hours a day. Some of them, naturally, resent him and cast doubt on his loyalty. #writesky
