1727, Al-Qusayr / Cairo Traveling north via the eastern passage she soon found herself back at the port of al-Qusayr. Once landed, she wanted to make her way inland. Towards Cairo, she wanted to revisit the pyramids there before continuing her journey. Based on her experiences in the east she had a suspicion of the innate power of ancient holy sites like those at Giza that the Light within was weaning slowly, possibly ever since their purpose was abandoned... The sun was setting, illuminated the port in golden light. A large lizard slowly walked through the crowds, maybe a pet? No matter, best be on with it. It’s more busy here than last time I was here. Too many people everywhere! Feeling a slight bout of nervousness, she found a secluded spot to create a portal. Drawing in the One Power was easier by far since she arrived. It felt as if it grew ever more abundant within her. Nobody reacted, she didn’t feel anyone watching her as she quickly passed through and closed the connection. The place she portalled into was a dark room, in a building. This had been nothing but sand last time! Slowly turning the handle, she stepped into a dimly lit room. Four robe clad men looked at her. “Welcome traveler!” One of the men said. “I’m Samir, priest and conservator. We were expecting you to arrive again. That room was constructed for that purpose.” She was nervous. “I’m Zeh’ra. How exactly did you know I was coming here?” Samir smiled. “A child saw you before, a long time ago. When she grew up, she had a vision of you returning and instructed the building of this office. Ever since then we have been a chapter dedicated to preserving knowledge. Nicknamed the ‘Folio Society’ mockingly by our peers.” She spent the evening getting to now them, somehow feeling comfortable and safe in their midst. 1542 – The Himalayan Passes The caravan slowly made its way up the steep hills in the deep fog. Switchbacks zigzag under her feet carved out of the very stone beneath. With every breath she could feel the Light pulse ever stronger — this had been a place of power in another age, she was sure of it. She enjoyed traveling with the caravan, even though she was quite tired of the smell of yak as a constant companion. As they got higher, the fog lifted and she spotted the monastery high up on the mountainside; like a hanging city, built over the clouds themselves. Once on the other side, a whirlwind sprang up, making it feel like we were in a biblical exodus! Being menaced by the wind itself was exhausting, though, when it finally dissipated a small cheer went through the caravan; they had made it to the Tibetan plateau! The wagons encircled their chosen campsite. To provide a little shelter from the elements. She had her own tiny tent, where she could relax and meditate to keep her mind and body healthy. Lighting a small candle to give her some warmth, she closed her eyes and tried to meditate. She slowed her breathing, loosened her tired muscles and reached for the One Power. Warm light filled her within while she tried to make sense of her feelings here. No answer came to her, though; when she opened her eyes, the candle blinked twice, What was it trying to tell me? She pondered while her eyes kept focusing on the candle. The flame flickered twice more. And a vision overtook She was standing right on the same plateau, looking up she saw the most magnificent creature she had ever seen. Thunder roared above him, and his wings — beautifully scarlet — flapped. As the dragon leapt from view she returned to her now. A dragon. 1803 Changing Spaces Livid, she lamented having to leave St. Petersburg; she had stayed too long... Leaving my son for the second time. But he has wed and had children of his own. It’s time to withdraw from even his periphery. Her contacts would appraise her of his and his children’s lives through letters left in a spot she could portal to. While she disorganized the last remnants of her life in the Russian Empire, she flipped through the curled pages of an old map-book, trying to decide where to go. Choosing Marrakesh, she would create a portal to a place she remembered well. There shouldn’t be anyone around now. She’d make her way up to Spain; Cádiz, maybe. Maybe they have pecans still! A memory of a shipment arriving last time she was there surfaced. Bending the Light into a portal, she stepped through with her bag, slid into the night unseen. Looking up her breath caught; in the near darkness a murmuration of starlings moved in the sky, a mesmerizing display. The birds flew on, and a scent caught her, spices! Maybe there was still learning for her to do; even her old spice-trader skills could evolve! Is that cinnamon? She laughed for herself; second chances taste like cinnamon! She wandered around Marrakesh until she found an inn where she could rest until morning, then go see if her skills still meant something in this age. Staying in Marrakesh wasn’t so bad. Amir He awoke with a grave feeling that something was wrong. The ground was vibrating with a terrifying frequency, causing dust on the tunnel floor to jump up and down to its Ruth’s. He noticed Temozin was staring down the tunnel and could feel Paolo stirring beside him, slowly blinking awake as well. He knew that rumble. They had encountered the midgardsorm before, and he wasn’t really interested in meeting him again. “He sounds close this time,” he said. Yes, Amir, Temozin said, he has sensed us. He is close, yet far enough away that he can’t get to us – but our path is impeded. Paolo yawned and squinted down the path, “so where can we go,” he said, “like, I can try to make us another tunnel, I think I can. But we need to pass his cave regardless.” Amir looked at him, Temozin also turned towards his Aludim. “Have your powers grown so fast? Last night you were tired from bringing forth the crystal lights!” Paolo stared at him, «yeah, I was tired, but Sha’Ni visited me in my dreams and taught me how to shape stone. She said I’d need the knowledge going forth.» «She visited you in your dreams?» Amir asked, «is that something she can do? Can we?» he directed that message to Temozin. I visited Paolo in our dreams often when we were growing up. Temozin said, we Edroth have always been able to visit the world of dreams at will. It may be that Sha’Ni has a talent akin to that ability. But I was in the dreamrealm most of the night, I didn’t sense either of you there. «I think she connected to my own dreams, like, for a one-to-one lesson» Paolo said, beaming at his companions. 1541Burmese Empire She spent a week in the village, learning the myths and legends of the locals. All the while enjoying nightly displays of brilliance by the meteor slowly moving above. Until, at last, the sky made room for one more to take its place,The jovial villagers freely spoke of myths and ancient happenings; of a dragon to the north, bonded with a human. Zeh’ra thought the dragon was called Druk. Apparently, in ancient times, he was said to ascend to the skies from the deep void, bringing the peoples back after the great desolation. Vastly different to the prophesied dragon from my old life. Each night, while it lasted, her eyes wandered to the luridly orbic object in the heavens above, so vivid for the seventh night. Not growing larger, or smaller it seemed. She felt the power of the celestial traveller, enjoying quiet reflections within while watching. The villagers also took on a more somber tone when they heard her goal of reaching the capital of the Sin Empire. They told her that the Ming Empire had closed its borders, no foreigner was allowed within. She didn’t think it would impede her much, her life wasn’t a race. Though, she didn’t say as much of that to them.Another fascinating revelation was that the whole empire was contained within tall stone walls. This she had to see! Was it a mesh to ensnare the people of Sin? Or was it a web to keep others out?The girl, Hnin Thiri, was as powerful as she felt now, which strangely was more than when she arrived, but less than that of her old life. Hnin Thiri had a good grasp of her abilities, saying that her spirit was old but her body new. Zeh’ra didn’t know what to believe. She would stay with the village until the next caravan heading north passed through. A point in the center lit up, so he assumed it was to indicate where he should stand. When he reached it, a chair suddenly appeared behind him, as if it melted up from the floor itself. A floor that is beautiful, almost carved from the stone itself, inlaid with gold patterns… He almost got lost in thoughts examining the floor, and didn’t therefore notice as twelve figures entered: six from either side of the room. “Amir Al-Nassim, you have come before the council of elders to hear your fate.” Fate? What? He was unsure what they meant. Fate? “We see your apprehension, we wish you no ill, but our oracle has foretold your coming to us. By its decree, you must adhere to its words as you venture forth from this chamber.” Intriguing. What are they? He could see almost nothing, they all were veiled, and clad in those golden robes. Although – there is something about their feet… he couldn’t quite put his finger on what it was though. Another one continued, “the Oracle foretold of a young man, who would find his way into this holy city – the first in several thousands of years to do so – and when he came, he must be sent on a quest to see the oracle – one of only two left in this world.” Yet another one continued, “The road to the oracle is far from easy. Here in Al’Aratta we are far from the world of humans. The oracle however, lives in a cave system beneath Delphi. It is connected to us by tunnels and gateways – but for you, the path through gateways is not open. You must venture through the tunnels. Find your way, and when the oracle is reached, she will tell you about her prophesy as it pertains to you.” “One thing we can say. Through meditation – you might find the path to take with more ease. We have, however, concluded. On this first travel, we will set out areas for you to rest, which will have food and drink for you when, and if, you reach them. These places will be safe for you, though the rest of the journey, you must find your own way.”

1541 – Burmese Empire Following stone markers along a path through the Burmese jungle was harder than she’d imagined, but as long as she encountered no people she continued to travel by portal. In the deep jungle she could hardly see far enough to jump safely, so mostly she still walked. When night came, and impeded her progress, she made camp in a clearing beneath towering trees. She prepared to set up wards to safeguard from the local wildlife, something she’d got herself addicted to do. Suddenly, brilliance tore the night apart. She looked up, as a meteor arched across the sky. Blooming in silence, as a void blossom opening towards the stars. She slept soundly under its silent power, waking to find there were people nearby. A girl stood just outside her wards – a girl who could see the wards, have I been inattentive? A girl connected to the same power she had. The first person with power she had met since arriving in this age. The girl gestured adamantly for Zhe’ra to follow, so she packed up the few items she had used and followed the girl to the village. The village was small, several tiny dwellings surrounded an open area in between. The girl led her through the houses until she stopped behind one with two adults working quietly. Are they her family? She connected to her power to gain understand of their language. She asked them carefully wether they knew about their girl. They said their daughter had been blessed by the valiant thunder god and would live long and bring prosperity to her family. No fear! Amazing. “Are there other girls blessed so?” Zhe’ra asked them. The girls mother looked at the father, who nodded. “There was a woman. She died last year. She confirmed Hnin Thiri was dragon-blessed.” Zhe’ra relaxed. I might stay here for a bit. 1 527 – reaching the coast Climbing across the Abruzzo mountains she hardly met anyone, managing to hide or occasionally jump through a portal to avoid people. News had still reached her though, of a brutal murder of a woman up in Würzburg. The poor woman had been found with a twisted spine. It made her so irate! She hadn’t encountered anyone, man, or woman, capable of connecting to the power. Not knowing where she was going yet was hard, she might catch a boat to Dubrovnik, or Durrës – or maybe even Corfu. She knew ships left Pescara regularly, all she had to do was get there. I had barely debuted in the high society of Rome too! She thought, making her even more angry. Glancing across a small valley she gazed across and created a portal, causing a tree to explode by the pressure! She dashed through and dusted herself off while she continued her journey, adjacent to the road, Coming to another steep drop she formed another portal to a clearing she could just make out a bit down the other side. Passing through she heard gasps. Turning around, she saw a couple with rackets in their hand as a small ball thumped on the grass. They play tennis, here? I thought it was a game for the royals in London, not here! Before they could say something, she formed another portal, just to the other side of the field where she could duck through some trees and get away. Better they think I was a trick of the light, not actually there! From behind the trees, she turned to see the men examine the spot she had stood. Too close. She walked down to the road, smelling the sea before she saw it. The warmth, the breeze; it felt almost like home. But she didn’t dare stay here. Once again, she was fleeing from persecution because of who she was. Except, this time it wasn’t because she loved a woman from a forbidden people. Paolo wondered, “Al’Dearo? Is that like El’Dorado?” the dragon chuckled. According to the Others, El’Dorado is a myth spread after some humans from your word came to this place to shelter after a catastrophe. Some of their descendants still live in the city with the Others to this day. After the Spanish conquered these lands, the world was no longer safe for all those who lived there, some returned to us here. The true name of the city though, is Al’Dearo. One of the holy cities of the Others. “Who are the Others?” he asked, before immediately continuing; “So then El’Dorado wasn’t a city made of gold, but a city bathed in the golden light of this internal sun you have here…” He suddenly turned to face Temozin, “How do I know you?” he asked, “I feel like I have known you my entire life, but how can that be?”. Temozin looked at him quizzically. I forget Aludim, you haven’t heard me since we were both children.

1527 The Holy Roman Empire Arriving in Rome had been spectacular. She’d spent almost five years in the city when the trouble started. Henry VIII had spread rumours among the nobility of a woman who did not age and had disappeared into thin air. The rumors had caught the ear of the Holy Roman Emperor, Charles V, travelled all over the global empire it seemed to her, and his spies had started questioning people. Every angle she investigated, every rock she turned, she found evidence of a decay of craft. The city of Rome pulsed with power, but so much weaker than in her old time. As if the Light itself had withdrawn. She caught imperial spies looming around, a purple glint in several of their eyes. A sign of the dark one if ever I’ve seen one. The city felt on edge, as if it were a powder keg, ready to burst. Though. It also felt like she waited for someone, someone that will push me one way or another. Some girls waved at her, she smiled and waved back, which made the girls giggle. She was still smiling when a voice called “There! That is her! The emperor wants her questioned!” She didn’t wait to find out what they were on about, quickly ducking into a quiet area where she opened a portal back to her rooms. As the portal closed, she heard them call “Which!” She had been discovered. Quickly packing her possessions, once again, she winced as she heard shouts and footsteps thumping upstairs. A portal to the forest outside the city, as far as she had been. If King Henry the eighth, or even the pope wanted her it was no going back. She’d flee further east. The portal was open, she couldn’t see anyone through it, so she ventured through, just as her door was smashed in. They wouldn’t manage to capture her! Staying away until all of them were dead shouldn’t be too hard for her to achieve.
