Today I learned that sitting alone in an empty café and reading William Gibson seems like a good idea until the com radio on the counter starts crackling and you hear a panicked female voice shouting inaudible words in what sounds like an east Asian language.

It's hard not to get political these days. Everything seems to be a controversial political issue, including the deliberate killing of journalists. I feel that if someone is trying to restrict where and what media can report on, they're trying to hide something and it's not likely to be good.

So anyway, here's Shalina Maloof. She's a black-winged kite originally from Sabtah in Northern Africa, but she's moved to Boston. She's a barista at a pirate themed café on the docks. She was part of a webcomic project of mine that never took off.
