How hot is it? Important but complicated question.
Beyond the Thermometer: 5 Heat Metrics That Drive Better Decision-Making
Land surface temperature, air temperature, heat index, wet bulb globe temperature and thermal comfort indices can be used for different purposes when measuring heat.

A few things everyone should be reminding everyone about measles:
* It can KILL
* It ERASES immunity that you have previously built against other diseases
* You can catch it from breathing air contaminated by someone who was standing there HOURS EARLIER
* IT IS PREVENTABLE

Repubs call it govt SPENDING, a seemingly neutral term that actually erases its purpose. Dems should be calling it INVESTING.

mRNA vaccines SAVED THE WORLD last time. So very insane that the right is demonizing mRNA vaccines, because there will definitely be more times! Bird flu, bat flu, something else completely new.

So, whenever the Dems or whoever steps up and acts like a true opposition party, they'll have to have a strategy for welcoming disillusioned former Trump supporters without triggering all the massive cognitive dissonance. No talk of leopards eating faces, for example. No schadenfreude. Will be hard.

Important takeaway from this essay: there will be lots of Trump supporters who will be harmed and maybe disillusioned by all the Trump/Musk chaos and destruction. We have to come up with ways to reach out to them and bring them into the tent. WHY ARE THERE NO OPPOSITION-PARTY PRESS CONFERENCES?

What bewilders me is the hostility toward fundamental scientific research. I mean, cancer cures?!
February 21, 2025 at 6:42 PM
Was this research partly supported by NIH funding? Yes! A federal research grant to study chemicals in malaria parasites made possible this work to find a cure for human brain cancer.

Trump is telling Elon Musk, no slouch at cheaping out safety, to tell Boeing, industry leader in nickel-and-dimeing safety, to shortcut safety regs and get him his planes goddammit. Because the current AF1 is so shabby.
A Frustrated Trump Wants His New Air Force One Planes Pronto
Among the ways being discussed to force faster delivery of two presidential planes are relaxing security clearances for Boeing workers and even purchasing a temporary luxury plane and retrofitting it.

Maybe 18th century presidents could get away with deciding everything without the professional expertise of the country’s labor lawyers and environmental scientists, and that’s why those folks don’t appear in the Constitution. But times and the actual atmosphere have changed!

The Einstein ring is all over my feed today, and I find it -- and all the #astrophotography I see ALL THE TIME -- so soothing. Thank you, space-pic posters! It's like, Trump can't sign an EO invalidating gravitational lensing. Elon Musk can't steal the images from people's backyard telescopes.

Insane and irresponsible that Pennsylvania isn't in on the NIH lawsuit. To our Republican Attorney General, loyalty to Elon Musk is more important than the billions of dollars in economic activity NIH funding drives in the state. Oh, and lives saved through science.
