thank you Silvia! Sometimes memory comes creeping out of a single word - I did not love cold Saturday morning hours, spent in the orchard - feet wet from dew, the scent of rotting apples, wasps. But I sure did love the apple juice (esp. the freshly pressed) as much as I cherish these memories now🍎🍂

(should give Blok another shot. Got his works in my book shelf, collecting dust. It's a shame - so much to read, so few time)

that is so true. Nabokov once wrote, he really preferred transcriptions over translations every day - I'm not always sure, though. Some translations are con-genial.
It's cool that you can read German! Bachmann was a dark magician of words - one of the best. her prose as well

On this bleak beach washed by the sea, that never fully wakes

a shrine of salt-bleached memories, the bones of vanished dreams

amidst shrill cries of distant birds, where every color fades

I rest this weary soul of mine, embrace the Norn's dark schemes

my pleasure! Quite curious how her poems translate to English. As in: there's so much lost in translation. Ordered her collected poems last weeks. Really playing with the thought to do more translations myself, but decided I should first check if the 'perfect' translation isn't already out there😅

pic of the Eiffel Tower, Las Vegas, Nevada, from top of a mesa, Montmarte. Quite a city. The tower is framed by an old school TV antenna on a rooftop. stark contrast, some clouds, a sea of houses.
