This beautiful Female Kestrel - Falco tinnunculus was captured at an @rspb.bsky.social site.

This bird was reminiscent of 'Kes' from the book and film; as she perched on th cliffs

Several hunting techniques are used by kestrels, but the most well-known is the hover. A kestrel will fly into the wind and use its tail and wings to hold its position in the air. Keeping its eyes fixed on the ground, it will swiftly drop to pounce on any prey sighted.

With extremely sharp eyesight, kestrels can spot a beetle from 50 metres away. They can even see ultraviolet light, which is invisible to the human eye. This means they can detect the urine trails left by rodents on the ground, helping the birds locate their prey.

Non native to the Uk, this species has is wodespread in some areas and it is now an offence to release them in the Uk.

Marsh frogs are much more closely tied to water than common frogs, and are almost always found either in the water or next to it, poised to leap in at the first sign of an approaching predator - they're a popular snack for herons, egrets and grass snakes. They prefer open wetlands, with plenty of sunlight to warm them and lots of aquatic plants to lay eggs on, but are highly adaptable and can be found in anything from marshes to ditches, ponds, streams, and large lakes. They can even put up with brackish water, where the salt content is higher than freshwater but not quite as salty as seawater.

These large carnivores are powerfully built with long bodies, relatively short legs, and a broad head. There are nine subspecies and are distinguished by the unique characteristics of their coats, which range from tawny or light yellow in warm, dry habitats to reddish-orange in dense forests. Their coat is covered in dark, irregular spots called rosettes. These spots are circular in east African leopards, but square in southern African leopards.
