🔥 Demokracie potřebuje spojence.

Zelení a Piráti dnes podepsali memorandum o spolupráci do voleb! Spojujeme síly, abychom nabídli skutečně progresivní, odbornou a spravedlivou alternativu pro budoucnost Česka.
Concordo plenamente – a colaboração científica, inclusive na taxonomia, deve sempre estar fundamentada no respeito mútuo e na equidade. Agradeço por trazer à tona essas conexões tão relevantes. #DecolonizeScience

Look. At. This. (!). A fungus spore landed on this weevil. Grew inside and caused it to climb to the top of this plant- while the fungus killed it. Consumed its body. Used that energy to shoot up a red fruiting body to release more spores. To zombify more weevils. A mind controlling killer fungus.

The garden I inherited from my mum is now more alive than ever! 🦋 By letting it grow a little wild, it’s easing into #permaculture—bugs, birds and fresh blooms are loving it. Thanks, Mum, for the beautiful foundation; nature knows how to flourish on its own. 💚 #wildgarden #biodiversity
A lawn with zero lawn-mower noise? 🍃 At Prague’s Krč Hospital, a flock of mouflon sheep keeps the grass in check. No engines, just the soft jingle of bells. So if you wake up from anesthesia to bleats and tinkling, don’t panic: you’re not in heaven, just the hospital takes #biodiversity seriously. 🐏

One of the endangered species in Czechia. This specimen grows in Větrušické rokle reserve 💚

And what do you want to name to save it? :)

In biological research, taxonomy is absolutely crucial. But it's becoming more and more overlooked. Let's remind ourselves that knowing the species around us is the basis of understanding the nature.

Taxonomy matters! 💚 #nameittosaveit

Call to action - Taxonomy Recognition Day, May 23rd
Every species has a story—but without a name, that story may never be told. This Taxonomy Recognition Day, May 23rd, a coalition of Europe’s leading natural history museums and botanical gardens is calling on the world to celebrate the science that names, classifies, and protects life on Earth. From the Canary Islands to Norway, and Portugal to Greece, over 30 institutions are coming together to shine a spotlight on taxonomy—the foundation of biodiversity research and conservation. Events across Europe will include expert talks, debates, behind-the-scenes tours, hands-on activities, and networking opportunities, all aimed at raising awareness about the critical role of taxonomy in our world. Join the #NameItToSaveIt Movement This year, we’re asking everyone—scientists, students, nature lovers—to help make taxonomy visible. Here’s how you can participate: 📸 Take a photo of a plant, animal, fungus, or microbe that fascinates you. 🔤 Find its scientific name (or ask for help—we’re here for that!). 📲 Share it on social media with the hashtag #NameItToSaveIt. Every post is a voice for biodiversity. Let’s make this the loudest Taxonomy Recognition Day yet! Why It Matters A million species are currently threatened with extinction—many of them still unknown to science. Naming a species is the first step toward protecting it. Taxonomy plays a crucial role in agriculture, medicine, conservation, and policy-making. Without it, we cannot fully understand, protect, or restore the biodiversity that sustains us all. This small, elegant moth is Tinagma perdicella Zeller, 1839, a species listed as Near Threatened in Finland. Suitable habitats are diminishing due to the overgrowth of meadows and other open areas, as well as a reduction in burnt forest habitats. #NameItToSaveIt
