When you recall portrait mode exists at the aquarium
School of silver fish amongst eelgrass in a blue walled exhibit. You can literally see every scale on some fish Extra af jellyfish that looks like a zebra-striped beret with a fringe of short tentacles that are tipped with pink little balls. Dramatically lit juvenile moray eel peeks out from some rocks A lone shrimp sits atop a pile of muscles attached to a vertical pole; surrounded by bright fish is and green algae

Did you think you could tell us when to stop? That’s adorable.
Two red spider lilies, known as equinox flowers, in full bloom nearly 3 weeks after the equinox, because they feel like it. That’s Odawara castle wall behind them. Cloudy sky with a bit of blue.

That’s such a fluffy, sleepy pumpkin 🧡

Dahlias still truckin!! Callout post for Camano Buzz on the left, tho— was pampered all spring and summer and she made just One Single Flower. #bloomscrolling #pnwgardening
Me holding a dahlia called Camano Buzz— a midsize formal decorative dahlia with golden orange petals. Riotous bouquet of orange, pink, purple, and cream dahlias in all different shapes and sizes

Mornings are getting cold now… Mentally I’m here (secunda.mp3)
A shot of the banks of the river in Leavenworth. Trees on the other side are covered in golden leaves and a low mist crosses the mountains in the distance.

Apple tree came w this house we’re renting, we neglect it all year and every fall there is a BUMPER CROP of decently sweet apples. Gonna make loads of apple sauce I think 🤔
Me holding one of the few perfect apples from the apple tree in my yard. They’re turning a rosy pink. Cute wooden paneled bucket half-full w picked apples. I coulda picked more but I only wanted to pick what I’m gonna immediately use. Chopped apples in a pot mixed with cinnamon.

Some misc #mushrooms that I can’t quite tell what they are. If anyone has guesses please lmk.

I have a suspicion that 4th one is an orange coral fungus that is only just starting to pop up 🪸. #Fungifriends
Cluster of tiny, orange gilled mushrooms tightly clustered and growing sideways off a log. A mature mushroom with a glistening, slimy cap with a light brown color peeking out of the moss. Two mature tan-colored mushrooms in the moss, both with a ring on the stem. An orange lump in the pine needles. It’s made up of many tiny tubes with split ends.

As usual there were many Russula on the trail, but this one’s a little cuter than normal. I think this one is Russula emetica, aka “the sickener”. Needless to say you don’t want to eat it. #fungifriends
A small mushroom with a cute, shiny pink cap and white stem popping up from the duff.

Easily found tons of Douglas Fir Cone Mushrooms… as the name implies, it’s the only thing they grow on! #fungifriends
My hand holding a skinny Douglas fir cone with 3 spindly little white mushrooms growing out of it

I think the Fly Agaric, or Amanita Muscaria, hardly needs an introduction. Here’s a young one I found popping up out of the duff. #fungifriends
A small, young specimen of the iconic fly agaric mushroom. The bulb-shaped cap has yet to unfurl but has its characteristic red color and white chunks.

Here’s Turbinellus floccosus, aka “scaly vase” or “wooly chanterelle”. Technically edible for some but decent chance of making you sick 😅 #fungifriends
A collection of 4 closely clustered, trumpet shaped mushrooms that are veined and cream colored on the outside, scaly and orange on the inside growing out of the duff. Top down view of prev mushroom

Saw several bolete mushrooms too! I suspect these are all Admirable Bolete, which are edible but reports of their tastiness are variable. Left them for other hikers to admire since I wasn’t super sure. #fungifriends
A single bolete growing out of the forest floor covered in pine needles. It has a brownish top, yellow pores on the underside of the cap, and a brownish stem. Some boletes growing out of a dead stump that look past their prime. These have velvety reddish brown caps, one is missing a large chunk. A single bolete growing on some wood. You can see the matte, velvety texture of the brown cap. A small and aged bolete growing alone out of the moss. The brown cap has started to flake and the underside pores are a bright, sulfurous yellow.

I did a lot of #mushroom #photography yesterday so yall get a a 🧵. These were all found near Snoqualmie, WA at elevations between like ~2000-3000ft.

Here’s what I think are some kind of Mycenae sp. There were TONS of them and their orange color is so striking on the moss. #fungifriends
Some kind of orange mycena mushroom that are tiny, loosely clustered, and nestled in the moss

We hiked Talapus and Olallie lake trail off Snoqualmie Pass today. Since we’ve had some early fall rains already there were sooo many mushrooms 🍄‍🟫
Me standing on a rock on the shores of Lake Olallie with trees and mountain behind me. I’m wearing a Puget Sound Mushroom Society shirt and holding a beer. A perfect little scene of a mushroom with a pinkish flat cap(probably a shrimp russula) nestled in the moss with wild Solomon’s seal fanning over it
