It's beyond not getting paid. Voters might have forgotten, but civilian feds remember what it was like from 2017-21. It was hell. And this time it's so much worse. Anyone who can retire right now is leaving even if they didn't plan to originally. And it's much worse this go-around.

It's the scam of lowering your monthly payment but extending the payment horizon, so the lender would cash in crazy amounts of interest. This is only a good idea in terms of cash flow, and terrible for actually building equity [in a society where one's home is often their most valuable asset].

I'm a socially awkward yet socially motivated person, so having felt the pain of losing friendships I valued and coming to understand the asymmetry of those relationships made me have a more visceral reaction to what the Tim Robinson character was going through, regardless of how out-there he was.

Please realize that there are about 2,000 people who work at BLS who would have to go along with fudging the numbers. The commissioner is the only political appointee in the entire agency. They would have to overhaul everything to be able to directly interfere with estimates.

So he wants people to use the money for the same purpose without the existing constraints (that the money must be spent on health insurance premiums).
