I had a great Silent Movie Day. Watched two exceptional films, The Last Command (1928) and Asphalt (1929). I had forgotten how great Asphalt is.

Tonight’s feature film was Major League (1989), one of the greatest baseball movies. I figured that Lynch was getting plenty of love tonight so we honored Bob Eucker. RIP.

My wife and I recently made our way through this boxset of 4 French films made during the occupation by Claude Autant-Lara whom I hadn’t heard of. The films are sweet and marvelously directed and acted. Douce (1943) was the sumptuous standout full of gorgeous photography and melodrama. Superb. #film

I've become interested in Japanese historical ghost story films lately and picked up this @filmsradiance.bsky.social gothic box set. All three films were excellent, atmospheric and creepy. I thought The Snow Woman (1968) was particularly good. Another fantastic Radiance Films boxet #filmsky #movies

I played in 38 TTRPGs sessions this year comprising 19 different systems of which I GM'd 22. New games on the docket for the coming year are Syma, The Terror Beneath, Dragonbane & Gran Meccanismo and continuing with Starforged, Heirs to Heresy, D&D, The One Ring and maybe some Pendragon.

I'm currently digging Ultimate Spider-Man, Uncanny X-Men, Conan, Space Ghost, and Wonder Woman for monthly books. I also really like Spectregraph and the Big Burn from DSTLRY, and Jenny Sparks for limited series.

The Big Burn #OnTheNightstand tonight. @dstlry.bsky.social is knocking it out of the park with this one. The premise of criminals who have sold their souls to the Devil trying to break into hell to steal them back in the ultimate heist is genius. Can’t wait for the finale. #comics

#Noirvember Film 15: Strange Fascination (1952). A talented professional pianist is sponsored by a rich American widow to come to America. Things are going well until he falls in love with a beautiful cabaret dancer who is down on her luck. Things spiral when she begins to lose interest in him.

#Noirvember Film 14: Experiment in Terror (1962). Bank teller (Lee Remick) is blackmailed by creepy killer (Ross Martin) in San Francisco. She's to steal $100K from her bank or Martin will kill her sister. Glenn Ford is the compassionate FBI agent assigned to the case. Great Dodger Stadium finale.

#Noirvember Film 13 Born to be Bad (1950): Joan Fontaine is a manipulative small town young woman who will do whatever it takes to get ahead. She sets her sights on a sophisticated millionaire and the sparks fly. Bohemian writer (Robert Ryan) is another sap. Good film directed by Nicolas Ray.

#Noirvember Film 12: Before The Devil Knows Your Dead (2007). Brother's Hawke and Seymore Hoffman, plan the perfect non violent jewelry heist, but things do go as planned. The situation spirals from there. Things get bad. Also starring a smoldering Marisa Tomei. Sydney Lumet's Last film. Great film.

#Noirvember Film 11 A Woman's Vengeance (1948) Philandering Charles Boyer is suspected of poisoning his invalid wife in order to marry a much younger woman (Ann Blythe). The evidence is damning but did he do it? Some great psychological imagery, including a heavy thunderstorm scene. Huxley adaption.

#Noirvember Film 10: Crime Wave (1954): Ex-Con parole (Gene Nelson) gets unwilling sucked back in when his 3 former partners break out the Q and want to rob a bank. Sterling Hayden is the hard ass detective that is riding him as a suspect. Featuring and early Charles Bronson appearance.

#Noirvember Film 9: Ride the Pink Horse (1947). Tough guy (Robert Montgomery) heads to Mexico to avenge the death of his friend. He initially looks down on all the locals but ultimately has a change of heart after receiving multiple acts of kindness. Thomas Gomez is fun as the loyal local drunk.
