Hey #portfolioday I usually make stuff for things like ttrpgs & movies. The last 2 yrs have been a lot of applying/rejections & it was making me think things like ‘you’ll never work again’/‘you were never good enough to stay’. So I said F*ck it & started making my own things.

Now that I've recovered from my cold and isn't sneezing my brains out, I finally managed to finish up my piece from @paulscottcanavan.com 's mentorship :D

Knew I wanted to paint a horse, so decided to draw some inspiration from the wild hunt folklore and ended up with bonus doggies.

I believe there are simply so many incredible artists that try and stay/get in touch with the MTG AD’s that they simply don’t have the capacity to reply.

It helps that I have a steady art direction job in TTRPG (Dungeons and Dragons type of games).
I miss doing MTG art not for the income but for staying in the MTG community as an active artist. I still go to MTG events.

I think they do. But with the new art directors came new artists of their own. I think only the super duper famous and good ones from the previous freelance artists got taken with. I kinda fell off the boat... but I can understand how it happened.

2/2 In many artists like me falling completely into the unknown. There is no way of getting onto their radar or reapply you work. It gives a sad feeling and is big hit on your self-worth/confidence as an artist.
I hope one day I can paint some more MTG cards.

1/2 A little sad venting coming in, regarding Magic the Gathering.

Some years ago I really enjoyed doing freelance work for MTG. I play the game and the type of art you get to do for it is just a lot of fun to work on. In the last few years WOTC switched out their entire AD crew which resulted ->
