We're almost there with getting Turning The Tide ready for Steam! Happy to say that it will be in the next Next Fest which is this October. Very exciting!

Testing has recently focused on making sure the game is fully compatible for the Steam Deck, which it now is!

Agreed. A game can have VN elements, but easy rule of thumb: controlling a character in a 3D space = not a VN game

I mean even Ocarina of Time has a linear story with click-to-advance dialog, but nobody would consider that a VN because there is so much more to the game than just the cutscenes

Seems to me the VN mention indicates "There is an actual story here, it's not just idle gardening"

FWIW, visual novels can be surprisingly linear. There is even a whole subset called kinetic novels that don't give players any choices, and the player merely presses a button to advance the story
