Day 14 - The Gryphon Challenge 10-year Anniversary

Harris's Hawk gryphon based on my photos of 'Morticia' during a falconry show. Was struggling with her eyes and the angles. Left the underlying sketch, might clean it up and do some pencil work later.

Inked a quick gryphon during intermission tonight rather than staying up late to do a more detailed drawing. Freehand, no sketch. Included some of my warm-up and speed sketches from earlier.

A pigeon-coon gryph! I've gotten several requests for a pigeon over the years, so here is one as a gryphon. Paired with the crafty Raccoon, these successful and adaptive urban species are a good match.

Still feeling a little stiff, but a little texture and pattern gives it a lift. Trying to give my wings a little better anatomy, we will see how long that lasts before it gives way to exaggerated expression.

I understand Inktober is controversial, but I enjoy the challenge of drawing every day of October and appreciate the unified hashtag. For me it is a fun drawing challenge that I aim to do every year. No I don't follow the prompt list and sometimes I miss days. That is okay!

Hard to believe it has been 10 years since I did my first Inktober which morphed into a 100-day gryphon drawing challenge! The next year I published a book of the drawings which kickstarted my foray into selling my art.
