Still proud of my dumb little GIF project tbh. No AI needed, human stupidity is enough to turn a 1MB GIF into taking up 13MB or more when it is loaded.
At some point I will need to learn some frameworks and whatnot, but it is good to know what I can do already without any of that stuff.

If children were more politically active they would be quite pissed to be told that their screen time is “the most urgent public health issue” while the largest measles outbreak since the vaccine sweeps their schools because of conspiracies that the adults in their life believed from social media.
The upload options now have been added to the gif-editor, and the tutorial gif has been modified to explain them. Still feels weird to have a a tutorial that is a GIF which I created and can update with the editor I made.
Wrote down my exploration of keeping all those juicy colors in an image when you put it into a GIF, and why you probably do not want to do that. The options I have implemented for the GIF-editor to allow full-color uploads will be available once I have tested them with some more images.

Wrote down my exploration of keeping all those juicy colors in an image when you put it into a GIF, and why you probably do not want to do that. The options I have implemented for the GIF-editor to allow full-color uploads will be available once I have tested them with some more images.

Fun fact about GIFs: You can position individual images on the Logical Screen so that they are partial or completly outside the screen; the behaviour in such cases depends entirely on the displaying program. This is a metaphor for the hidden things in life and how nobody is perfect.

Forget the "Does AI have feelings" discourse, I want to talk about CPU welfare now. We should aim to give the poor and overworked chips some smooth data to relax from time to time.
Is it bad if we release these not really thought through apps into the wild? Maybe. But think of the shareholder value it will produce, and all the cool puzzles we got to solve to make this thing. Who can say if blasting the more vulnerable parts of society with pure psycho-waves is bad or not?
A genuinely alarming piece in the NYT about how the developers, scientists and assorted techbros behind "AI companions"/"synthetic care" do not even know or understand the potential harms of the tech they're developing but they're too greedy to stop themselves from developing it.

In theory I have now a better version which uses up ~10% less memory. In practice it does seem to produce not wellformed GIFs and I am too tired to figure out why. Windows still plays them but my own parser tells me there are problems with the resulting gif -.-
I really ought to not let my intrusive thoughts win. But now I can turn ~150KB JPEGs into ~2MB GIFs.

a) imo the left is in general more caring about injustices and sees how AI can enable some people to do even worse things.
b) which part of the hype? The p(doom) one? The one where it replaces every white collar job? The one where it leads to UBI? The one where it developes maternal feelings for us?

I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

Feeling the urge to make a smallish GIF converter option after drafting my next blog-post about how one can achieve more than 256 colors on screen in a GIF.
Probably gonna hardcore something to experiment around, in order to have some visual examples.
