Yesterday we celebrated the 5th bday of Rise x Workshop at the Brooklyn Children's Museum! As a special treat, I traded portraits with readers (big and small). Grateful so many visitors were brave and willing to play—the results were surprising and very, very lovely.

"A rhinoceros is a ton of fun to draw, especially the rambunctious, naughty kind. Our blue Rhino is practically all belly—you can hear him galumphing into a room!" @studioroxas.bsky.social mrschureads.blogspot.com/2025/06/neve...

“The comically over-the-top illustrations, created with cut paper, oil pastels, and acrylic, will arouse guffaws; the bright blue rhino is quite endearing, and readers will easily forgive him for his naughty behavior.
A hilarious flight of fancy.”

“In 2020 everybody sprinted to hire diversity candidates, and…you can’t sustain a sprint for five years. We’re now seeing as a publishing community that we need to be in it for the long term. This takes stamina, consistency, intentionality, strength, and commitment.” - Andrea Davis Pinkney
