Pauline Virginia Strout (1916-2001)
John Bell Williams of Mississippi, among others, hurled invective at Strout, sending a clear message the Federal Government had no plans to relinquish control of DC's citizens.

Anyone in the Rockport Maine area knowledgeable of area history? I haven't been able to find any information on Granite Rock Bottling Co in West Rockport Maine. I have found some similar bottles from other states, but nothing for West Rockport Co. Also shown is a Vess Dry bottle from the 1940s-50s

Capt. Carl Strout (1882-1947) of #Maine became one of the most well-known steamship merchants on the West Coast ⚓️

In 1919, the Seattle Daily Times lauded Capt. Strout's safekeeping of 403,000 troops in #WWI aboard his ship, the Yale, "dodging Germany's swiftest submarines."
Strout's husband, Mayor "Doc" Ames, was relected 3 times, until a journalist uncovered his massive police-assisted crime/corruption ring.

Dubbed "The Shame of Minneapolis," Ames' scandals were cited in Sarah Strout's obits as a reason for her early death at age 50.
In 1862, Sarah A. Strout, daughter of Union Captain Richard Strout, married a Union soldier who survived the war & became a doctor then, eventually, Mayor of #Minneapolis
