If you take it from the point of view in-universe, than it is. The romantic portion isn't some grandiose centerpiece of the story on which everything pivots, its just two girls agreeing to share the boy they love.

The original show is actually a Frankenstein of three different productions, all of which suffered production issues. The manga is one continous story, so much more fluid.

Like, we don't think of it as native English speakers, but colloquial usage of words like 'cool' really dont translate well. You have to understand the culture your speaking as well.

Awesome! I love getting feedback from native speakers on the things im trying to learn. Cultural nuance is absolutely a thing everybody needs to learn, because it changes sooo much.

And I'd like to add, a novice student of Japanese, and I do stress novice, it took me all of three minutes to look up those kanji and see that the line implies patriarchal (father of the house is what my kanji book says), not domineering.

Honestly, its shock in my case. I wake up each day and just to get through without paralyzing anxiety I go through motions and just complete tasks. And I one of the people who tells everyone who'll listen were doomed.
