I would say Trump is definitely exceptional (derogatory) but it's also important to realize that someone like trump simply could not exist 200 years ago. We're much more casual now than we were then, much more direct. Shakespeare made bawdy jokes, but he never said "grab her by the pussy", right?

I mean, Jackson was pretty crude for his time, famously accusing one of his political opponent's appointment to secretary of state as a "corrupt bargain". It's just standards of rudeness and crudity have shifted over time.
