“When I see an anxious person, I ask myself, what do they want? For if a person wasn’t wanting something outside of their own control, why would they be stricken by anxiety?”
- Epictetus, Discourses.
This wont backfire at all.
Getting @isotop3.com into Eve Frontier… 👀😈
Overall this is a bad situation all around. I am not sure if there is a solution for this, expect for maybe by the open source community (but can that collective really solve the issue with the high barrier for entry?). Feels like a lose-lose situation for the most part.
But In think what causes a stronger sense of worry is that this bad behavior is especially prevalent in the duopoly of phone manufacturers / OS makers. There isn't really an alternative in the United States and out of the two, Apple being the more private of the two (could change with a switch).
I've been reading the book "Enshitifaction" by Cory Doctorow. It's a quite enlightening book, showing what significant issues come from a digitalized world.

It's hard not to feel a sense of worry, knowing that the powers at play will continue to make choices that are at the expense of the user.
Nah. They should yolo and watch what happens when the AI bubble pops. Fuck MS and their anti consumer BS in their OS.
BREAKING: Microsoft, $MSFT, leaders worried that meeting OpenAI’s rapidly escalating compute demands could lead to overbuilding servers that might not generate a financial return, per the Information
The pictures and videos from #NoKings this weekend makes me proud to be an American.
I keep getting emails from GitHub to register for GitHub universe…

Like, I already know 90% of it is going to be AI AI AI AI AI AI AI.

Don’t need to hear more of that bullshit. It’s already talked about way too much everywhere else.
Tired today. I stayed up too late playing the new Pokémon game.

AOC: And they are able to radicalize a generation of young boys in particular, away from healthy masculinity and into an insecure masculinity that requires the domination of others who are poorer, browner, darker, or a different gender than them.
Really excited for this game. I know you probably can’t confirm, but I hope that Proton and Crossover playability is at least considered, because I’d love to be able to play this with my friends, but I use a Linux and macOS machine. 🫠
When will it be that OpenAI starts selling this data? Im sure there will be a time for them to cash in once their venture capitalism firewood runs dry.
This manipulative behavior isn’t new. Facebook has been doing this for awhile and TikTok has mastered it with their addictive algorithms. The difference with this in ChatGPT is that these LLMs have WAY more intimate knowledge on a person, and ways of getting more of that knowledge.
So, there’s a crisis with people getting confused with a machine being a “real” person / consciousness. Now #OpenAI is further going to fuck with people who are emotionally vulnerable.

This is an example of the worst of capitalism.
This C++ build got killed this morning on my machine due to MEMORY 🥲.
Working on something involving LEDs, a Pico 2, and C++.
Overall though, the search for clout and numerical validation for my own egotistical mindset, a naive focus of mine that I once had (closer to when I first started social media)....I've come to realize is just a very unhealthy way to interact with social media.
Generally, I suppose I would use it to be able to see what other's opinions are, of those that I greatly respect and consider when I contemplate my own. But also, to align with and feel connected to people and organizations whose work I think is important. That is a good use of the digital tools.
But I guess it's to get some thoughts written down on some sort of archive. It's good to formulate the thought and idea in order to establish a personal stance or philosophy...a way to conduct life, as some might say. I was talking to my wife about this, about why I use social media and how I use it
The majority of platforms advertise themselves as "social" media, but in reality, what is stated to be "social" media feels a lot more like just media, attention-grabbing (at least, when I say this its in respect to the Facebook suite of platforms). Idk why I am writing this post now....
This thought is interesting to me, and one that I could see having a large effect on, mostly, how often I tend to use social media as a whole. I've already gone through many a transformation between platforms...from Instagram, to Facebook, to Twitter, to Mastodon, to BlueSky.
As such, it has me re-thinking a lot of what for and why I use social media. Honestly, it has largely been as a mis-labeled RSS feed reader (if I am really honest with myself). Like, seriously, I can achieve 90% of what I use social media for by simply replacing it with an RSS reader app.
.... with social media as a whole. The majority of the interactions with the posts and content of social media: likes, comments, even original posts...all feel shallow, lacking a deeper interaction that I am realizing is strongly related to the difference of valuable vs invaluable social experience.
