Reckless driving is killing us. St. Louis deserves more than paint and photo ops. 1/9

St. Louis cannot afford to treat traffic violence as a branding exercise. Lives depend on action, not appearances. 9/9

Instead, we are given cosmetic improvements to very specific vocal neighborhoods, producing favorable photographs and social media posts.

On the ground, conditions are not improving. They are deteriorating. 8/9

• We expect dangerous driving to be addressed with traffic enforcement, especially in residential neighborhoods, near parks, and around schools. 7/9

• We expect advocates to support victims and families in becoming whole again, not to use their stories merely as justification for new projects. 6/9

Since no one else is saying it,

• We expect a community where no driver leaves a child—or any person—in the street after a crash, regardless of who is at fault. 5/9

Yet from politicians and organizations that rarely miss a ribbon-cutting, there has been no public outrage, no accountability, and no serious response. Only silence. 4/9

Just this week—during what was promoted as “car-free week”—at least four people walking or biking were struck by drivers, including a child stepping off a school bus. 3/9

Reckless driving continues to claim lives in our city, and St. Louisans deserve more than symbolic gestures in response. Green paint, staged photo opportunities, and curated social media campaigns do not make our streets safe. 2/9

We could start by tossing out advocacy that only allows for built environment upgrades? Be open to discussing regional advocacy instead of hyper local? Share when we have crashes and not be afraid of letting people know about them?

And we are at 4 hit and run crashes on pedestrians this week.

It's a beautiful day to celebrate our seven newest independent bicycle riders, #STL! After the downpour this afternoon, the skies calmed down just in time for this dedicated crew's final week of Learn-To-Ride class. Big thanks to teachers Cate and Chad and to all seven brand-new BWorks grads! 🚲🌧️🤩
Some very proud-looking kiddos pause with their practice bikes as their dedicated BWorks teachers smile in the background after leading the group of seven Learn-To-Ride students through their pre-practice-ride safety checks.
