Trump/GOP focused on basic voter needs (Physiological/Safety), while Democrats initially targeted higher-level issues. Reaching financially struggling citizens is tough when focusing on luxuries. The Democrats' recent success shows their shift to lower-level needs messaging is resonating!

I was contemplating the 2024 election results and seeing how Maslow's hierarchy of needs might apply here.....but it was tough to get into 300 characters so I will spread across two. It seems to me that the hiearchy can be used to explain the election and why the DEM's have recently perked up.
