Aside from Finn and Cook the TNT cricket commentary is borderline puerile

Never quite understand why the urge to reach for Mark Lanegan descends. Might be the onset of winter. Anyway, that voice

I’ve been immersing myself in this for the last few weeks. 30 songs, 1hr 52 min and, in sequence, flows like a mountain stream. Equal to anything in the gargantuan Wilco catalogue, profound, spatial and comforting in these dark times.

This is so tragic. A fearlessly original and uncompromising poet-musician

Avett Bros and Mike Patton is a collaboration from the left field but the album is nothing short of magnificent. It needs an acceptance of the Avett earnestness but it’s more than redeemed by the glimpses of Faith No More absurdism

Not to denigrate their original credentials but Cowboy Junkies do stellar covers, their slowcore Sweet Jane swings with a sleaze I'm sure Lou silently approved of

It's a very crowded field and I have no stats but this must be up there as my most played (now 80) Neil. "An exorcism of male violence with shotgun power chords rising to the challenge of punk rock." might be pushing it but few songs rival its subterranean power.

Seriously good new Midlake album. No other group lands in the fertile territory that straddles English pastoral folk and open skies Americana. Every note and syllable has its purpose.

Pulp is Uncut's No.1 album this year and, whilst it's nowhere near mine, there's no arguing with the merit of that.

The Belair Lip Bombs – Again review
Sometimes it's the things that aren't said that hold the biggest clues. Admittedly not everyone will be recipients of the details, but part of the press kit for The Belair Lip Bombs second album is a track by track breakdown of it, written by lead singer Maisie Everett. And so, what? you might ask. Whilst not exactly standard practice, the idea of giving up more detail about a new record when your band has so far been a largely domestic thing in native Australia makes sense.

Who’s Next-era ‘Who’, Wire angularity, magisterial descending power chords, Guided By Voices stretch out to 15 songs in 38 minutes. Unbeatable.
