"We need to bring high-paying jobs to NZ, that's why we're refusing to pay doctors properly"
"We need to improve kids academic performance, that's why we're refusing to pay teachers properly"
Once again asking journalists to ask the obvious questions of this logic-free soundbite machine.
I'd like him to explain why NZ is such a different and magical place that we shouldn't have a CGT when most countries do. So far I've yet to hear a clear explanation. Just "it'll wreck the economy!" (How?)
But why is it the job of the leader of National to kill a CGT? We know we're over-invested in property in this country. Most countries have one. If National were the stewards of the economy they claim to be they would support it. They should have implemented one themselves.
Do we really want people to be able to spontaneously undergo mitosis in the middle of conversations though?
Also, how are those turning points? "Axis victories" was the initial direction of the conflict, but they lost in the end. Surely the turning points are the things that caused the war to go from "they're winning" to "now they're losing".
Capital gains taxes only raise money when there are capital gains? *shocked Pikachu face*
Has any journalist asked her which of the 130+ countries that have a CGT had their economy ruined as a result of implementing it?
It's very frustrating. Climate change isn't going to fix itself or go away. It's going to affect people significantly. It's going to be a massive, ongoing, increasing drain on the economy. Yet it's often not even in the top 5 political issues people care about. It's never considered urgent enough.
It definitely can be
It's the traditional destination for criminals of a certain political persuasion when fleeing justice.
So the only reason Seymour is not an All Black is because he didn't get the right opportunities when he was young, but poor people are poor not because of a lack of opportunities, but due to their own failing? Is that his position?
Add politicians to that second list.
Shut up or we'll end up with one of the months getting renamed to Donaldtober.
Given that ~50% of teenagers are female, I'd expect the average teenager to have %50 of the sperm count of a 65 year old man.
This feels like something bsky staff would say just because they don't want to explain why posts are called skeets.
Definitely giving "I have no soul, and I hate you" vibes.
Ugh. Not an improvement.
I'm pretty sure they've been told repeatedly. They don't care, because they don't care about anyone who isn't in a car.
Are there any photos of Luxon where he doesn't look like he's just sucked a lemon and/or been punched in the face?
And of course that was on the back of other decisions harming the climate such as cancelled EV subsidies and added taxes, an expressed desire to restart fossil fuel exploration and extraction, multiple decisions to allow seabed mining at the cost of off shore wind farms.
Mask is really off in terms of climate policy. In less than a week they give farmers carte blanche on methane emissions, and decide not to let the Minister for Climate speak at a major climate change conference.
It's a very stupid take given almost every other country was less cautious and yet suffered the same (or worse) economic consequences, but with more death. But our media and politicians have never been interested in evidence from abroad. They'd rather go by their own gut feels and uninformed reckons
Luxon has decided that methane doesn't count so no need for alarm. I'm sure he knows better than scientists.
The idea that the right would stop weaponising the term if the left just stopped using it seems quite naive. It's a convenient bogyman for them. Trying to explain "well acktshually it means anti-facist" will be as effective trying to explain that "woke" doesn't mean "everything I hate".
