40 years ago today, I boarded USAir 323, the 5:50 pm departure to Indianapolis, with the Celtics. It was my first day at the old Boston Herald and first day on the NBA beat.

I could not have imagined -- or be more appreciative -- of the ride that continues.

You may have wanted to avert your eyes in the 4th quarter, but the Sultan of Stat, Dick Lipe, has a strong stomach.

It was preseason in October in Toronto, but the Celtic subs made it look a lot like summer league in July in Vegas.

It's just the preseason, but the Sultan of Stat, Dick Lipe, insisted on getting in his reps as the Celtics opened against the Grizzlies.

Though he didn't make the trip to Memphis, the Sultan's aura had barbecue at Rendezvous and got hammered at B.B. King's on Beale Street.
