i struggled a lot with this too!!!
for me the issue was ryu's glasses variants but ESPECIALLY the two h-scenes w/ ryu after haru admits to him who he is. there's a LOT of variants for those scenes because of ryu's glasses and choosing whether to have them on or not carries over to the second scene.

the mod makes it look more like the japanese console releases, but with a LOT of added customization. you can choose between ADV and NVL style, enable voice acting, change the BGM, and choose between MG, original, and console sprites.
you can play around and see what the best experience is for you!

i recommend using the 07th mod w/ the MG version tbh!

i found the official english release unmodded to be a little hard to read as they do not clearly differentiate who is talking in scenes and in scenes where 5 or more characters are all talking together, it can get confusing haha.
