Was so difficult to pick just 4 highlights from my incredible trip to Chile over the last week and a half. Visited Santiago, hiked in the Torres Del Paine National Park, and birded on the beach in La Serena!

Some great birds lately, Black Stork at Boyton Marshes on July 29th, spotted flycatcher chicks in my garden recently, and today I saw the mega Zitting Cisticola (I promise!) and some stunning Red Deer nearby!

Collared Pratincole showed incredibly well at Aldeburgh today

Haven’t made a post in a while but I got 2 lifers recently, the first was a very surprising common quail that I heard from my garden in north Essex on the 17th and the second was the Marsh Warbler at Cley Marshes in Norfolk!

Yesterday had great views of several singing male Redstarts, and one female, and tons of Dartford Warblers in Suffolk!

Amazing day with a lifer in the form of the Welney Roseate Tern (which showed amazingly) and then nice views of 4+ parachuting tree pipit and woodlarks in Thetford Forest on the way back!

1 of the 2 Little Gulls came very close at Abberton today and it was a stunning one with noticeably pink-flushed underparts. Unseasonal whooper swan and lots of migrants too

Was great to see this Beaver today in Canterbury!
At the weekend I had a trip to Elmley where I had incredible views of 5+ Short-eared Owls, and this female Marsh Harrier eating some disgusting looking prey!
Going for lifers this year so ventured into Suffolk where it was a much nicer day than yesterday. Had 2 lifers in the form of a pair of Tundra Bean Goose at Thorpeness and Water Pipit (finally) at Minsmere, also had 2+ Velvet Scoters and 2 Whooper Swans #ukbirding
Despite the weather I still got out for January 1st birding at Abberton Reservoir yesterday. Slavonian Grebe showed well from LDLH causeway amongst the coots along with the BN Grebes further out. Managed to see the Bewick’s Swan from Wigborough Bay Hide as I was being soaked by rain! #essexbirding
After failing to see the Yellow Warbler and Scops Owl in Kent on Saturday, nice to get some good birds near home with Black-necked Grebe and Ring-necked Duck at Abberton and Hen Harrier and Short-eared Owl at Copt Hall!
Back to Essex for Christmas so went out for some local birding. 4 Great Northern Divers off Old Hall was nice with these three together close in, with a Slavonian Grebe distantly too. Stopped quickly after to see the 2 Bewick’s Swans at Abberton! #essexbirding
Attempted to see the Richard’s Pipit at Foreness Point on Sunday, but no luck. Had good views of Purple Sandpipers, a Drake Eider, and this one-footed Rock Pipit! #birds #ukbirding #kent
