Stevenage were expected to be a stern test for City yesterday, but aside from a solitary chance in the second half, they offered nothing. With one defeat in the league all season, they came as the in form team, and while you can see why they're decent and challenging at the top, they didn't give us a full demonstration of their attacking prowess.

Michael Skubala was in a jubilant mood after yesterday's 1-0 victory against top-of-the-table Stevenage. City turned in an excellent display against Alex Revell's outfit, but after a flurry of chances in the first 15 minutes, the game remained 0-0. It took Rob Street's strike with 20 minutes to go to raise the roof at Sincil Bank and give us a first home win against Stevenage since Boxing Day 2018.

A number of former Imps were in action this weekend, with some notable performances. Harry Anderson topped the list of former Imps impressing this weekend – his first-half hat trick helped Colchester United to a 3-1 victory against Harrogate Town in the battle of clubs managed by former Imps. Jack Payne got an assist as The U’s fought back from conceding in the third minute.

I just wanted to frame us as a promotion candidate. Let's be honest, with Luton eight points behind us in 14th, they're not really a promotion rival, are they? Not right now. Anyway, they announced a former City coach as part of Jack Wilshere's staff yesterday. David Bridges departed the Imps in November last season, although to be honest, it felt more recent than that.

In our Stacey West group chat a few days ago, Emily struck a chord with me. It was after we'd announced Scott Fry was staying at the club, and she said, 'Stop doing and announcing things that make me think '…are we.. good? I can’t cope with the hope.' I couldn't help but have that in my head today. Up to (and including) this morning, part of me still thought that the surge up the table could be happening because of numerous things.

Imagine losing to the side that would eventually finish second, with 68 points (97 in today's money) and still going top of the table. 1975/76 had it all. Red cards and no suspensions, our manager giving a gallon of whiskey (well, the proceeds of) to a school, and now defeat to our title rivals sending us top.

Newcastle Poised To Land Barnsley Teenager Josh Kenchington Barnsley are set to sell highly rated defender Josh Kenchington to Newcastle United after an initial fee believed to be around £350,000 was agreed, with substantial add-ons attached. The teenager, an England youth international, has attracted strong top-flight interest, with Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton also monitoring his progress.

Few would have predicted Lincoln and Stevenage to to such a big clash this weekend, but sixth meets top in a real battle of the unlikely promotion wannabes. It felt at times like referees were sales reps for Clinton's earlier in the season, they gave out so many cards to City players. I did a bit of analysis and concluded that almost all of them were justified, and it seemed like we were developing something of a problem. Ryley Towler got suspended, Conor McGrandles is just a game away, and two yellows ended Rob Street's afternoon against Wigan.

City go into this weekend's early kick off against Stevenage with a clean bill of health. Few would have had this as a top of the table clash, but with the early kick off, someone clearly had a bit of insight! After some boring matches with Stevenage, this one promises to be blood and thunder, and City go into it with a clean bill of health.

Lincoln City will pay tribute to the Armed Forces when Stevenage visit the Bank on Saturday. The lunchtime kick-off on 18 October will serve as the club’s official Remembrance Day fixture, with a short pre-match ceremony taking place before play begins. Supporters are being encouraged to arrive early to ensure they can be part of the commemorations, which will include a bugler performing the Last Post.

Former City midfielder Ted Biship might have spent a lot of time on the sidelines, but when he did play he always looked a cut above. He left for Colchester United on a free transfer, and it seemed as though they had grabbed a real snip. On his day, the cultured right boot of Bishop could unlock defences and score goals alike.

The First Round of the FA Youth Cup will be drawn this weekend, with the young Imps hoping for another run as in previous seasons. Last season, the Imps reached the Fourth Round, beating Lichfield, Bolton and Wrexham on the way. The draw was not kind, sending us to Plymouth Argyle, where we were beaten 5-4 on penalties. That result looks decent given what happened next - Plymouth knocked out Everton in the Fifth Round, and lost to eventual winners Aston Villa in the Quarter Finals.

We enjoyed our visits to Sheffield Wednesday in recent seasons, and had a good record against them. I see the Owls as a giant of the English game, remembering the likes of Sheridan, Hurst, Waddle, Di Canio, Carbone and Nilson as huge names. Hillsborough is one of the country's most iconic (if a little dated) stadiums, and in terms of big clubs, there's only really Sunderland we've faced since 2019 that can argue a case for being bigger.

It's always nice when a player reaches a milestone in terms of appearances. I felt gutted, for instance, when Sean Roughan finished on 149. A nice round 150 would assure a certain status, but 149? It just falls short. I find it hard for a player not to be classed as a club legend if they hit the 200 mark, and with Ben House's new deal, we now have three players, I think, who could reach that number.

Welcome to our latest League One roundup, bringing you four of the big news stories from our division over the last 24 hours. As we welcome back a trio of players from their international obligations, a couple of clubs in our division have taken issue with their players' involvement. However, we start our roundup with a transfer nobody saw coming, that trumps Tim Akinola going to Arsenal.

Ben House has signed a contract extension to remain with the Imps until at least the summer of 2028.  The news comes on the back of us discussing his contract situation on the podcast, and unanimously deciding we'd like to see him stay at the club. The energetic forward joined City in January 2022 from National League side Eastleigh and has since gone on to make 128 appearances in red and white, scoring 26 times.

Few football grounds in England carry the same sense of identity, endurance and community as Sincil Bank. For well over a century, the home of Lincoln City has stood beside the slow-moving waters of the Sincil Drain, its floodlights cutting through the night air beneath the watchful shadow of the Cathedral. Though commercial sponsorship has since rebranded it the LNER Stadium, to Lincoln folk it will always remain Sincil Bank, the spiritual home of the Imps.

The second international break of the campaign is now over for Imps (and former Imps), and the qualifying for World Cup 2026 still hasn't been finalised. Scott Fry has signed a contract to remain with the Imps as set-piece coach. Fry joined the club as goalkeeping coach in July 2022 and took on the added responsibility of overseeing all set-pieces at the start of the 2024/25 season. The club’s success with set-pieces saw an approach for his services from a Championship club this summer. Initially, he seemed set to move, with David Preece returning to the club as keeper coach.

As part of the Stacey West Podcast this week, we were asked to assess the future of six current Imps. These are the players that are widely believed to be out of contract in the summer, and we were given the remit of deciding what we, as laymen, would do if we were in the club's shoes.
