Our art calls never close.

Here's another photo of light through glass for our 'Through the Looking Glass' call.

See some interesting light through glass? Post it and name check @squirrelkiosk , we repost our favourites.

Ingredients? Some white wine, a pretty glass, and my neighbour's tree.

“Through the Looking Glass" - proves you don't need special materials to make art - just imagination!

Materials for this photo:
- my folks wedding photo
- my folks glasses
- my folks favourite liquor!

Now it's your turn - what you can do with a photograph & some glass tag @squirrelkiosk
Now it's your turn (check out our last post)! Show us what you can do with a photograph of some glass, the theme is "Through the Looking Glass".

Tag @squirrelkiosk.bsky.social so we can see what you make.
You don't need special materials to make art, you just need imagination.

The materials for these "Through the Looking Glass" photos are:
- a pretty second-hand glass from a vintage market
- a nice bottle of red wine from Tawse
- an episode of The Graham Norton Show

We both LOVE coloured lights, we each have a ton of them. In addition to the strings and strings of lights, I made gels with cellophane and glass paints to fit over white lights. -K
The lighting in our installation had to do some pretty heavy lifting.

All good Christmas windows have movement. We did that with continually changing light, which also provided all the colour; we painted with light.
LIGHTING UP our 2020 holiday window installation!

The whole idea was to paint with light…and the final effect was STUNNING!

Looking forward to new installations SOON!!

Just like I promised:
Watch @karentaylorart & me set up our “12 Days of Christmas” installation—at a highly unrealistic speed!😜

In real time, this took several hours, some mild chaos, and a strong commitment to festive drama.

#12DaysOfChristmas #installation
This installation (aside from giving people something joyful during lockdown life) was to build black & white 3D line drawings and “colour” them with lighting!

Say tuned for a behind-the-scenes video of us putting the whole thing together!

Remember our "12 Days of Christmas" window in 2020? Our first installation together.

You couldn't come into the studio, so we brought the studio out to you. We spent months creating an installation that could be seen from outside. Our massive ground-floor window is the perfect venue.
Did you see our posts on making art with magazines? Want to join in? Create something using a magazine of your choice (any genre). Tag us, we'll repost the most original ones.

This is all about play and creativity, not about making a polished finished product.

Can't wait to see what you do!
Ever feel like you're being judged for how you look? Maybe you are, maybe you aren't. Or maybe, Judgy McJudgerson over there can mind their own business.

"Fashion Police", collage

Another offering from our Cosmetic Surgery project. -K

Squirrel Friends, here is my 2nd stab at @karentaylorart.bsky.social 's art challenge!
I did some serious "Cosmetic Surgery" on my Men's Health Magazine. It was fun stretching different creative muscles with sculpture!!

Rob here— it’s a Botox bottle/syringe made from the airbrushed faces in Esquire mag! As an aging gay…this felt appropriate for @karentaylorart’s “Cosmetic Surgery” challenge!
✅Made from magazines!

Kinda on the nose…but I made another piece too… dropping it here soon!

'Content' is the industry name for the ads, not the articles we readers are interested in. The articles are filler to lure us to the messages that make us feel bad.

We are worthwhile just as we are.

We would be much more contEnt without all the cOntent. So I fixed it.
-K
My contribution is a series called 'Content'.

I know that some people argue that these magazines and their adverts are meant to be aspirational. In what way?

Aspiring to an unattainable body shape? Aspiring to spend money on unaffordable goods? Aspiring to clothes that fit no ones lifestyle? -K
One of the fun things we'll be doing is challenging each other.

Our first challenge is called 'Cosmetic Surgery'. I wanted us to look at how fashion/lifestyle magazines are designed to make us feel dissatisfied and for each of us to 'fix' them with the aid of some scissors. Very satisfying.
I'm Rob & I’m ridiculous! This account is NOT about art SALES it’s about CREATION! Karen and I push each other to take risks, get weird, & create artistic magic! Coming soon: New installations, wild experiments and fun ways YOU can join in! Let’s get weird!
I'm Karen Taylor, and I'm a hoarder.

Scraps of paper, fabric, it all comes in handy for our installations. I'm known as a painter, but I also have experience with photography, fabric art, drawing, and sculpting with different materials.
