Hello, world!

We are a new children’s bookshop which will open its doors in Edinburgh in 2026.

Much work is going on behind the scenes to make it happen, but in the meantime we are doing a pop-up to introduce ourselves to our lovely city and its community.
Our children’s bookshop intends to focus not just on new authors, publications and editions, but also on out of print, rare and secondhand children’s books.

So many treasures have been unjustly forgotten or are no longer easily available in shops, and we hope to remedy this in our own small way.

One day, in a village in Southern China, a young girl leaves her mama’s house to buy ingredients for wonton soup. On the way to market, she meets a wonderful array of characters who all gift her with something special for her mama’s cooking pot.

Flora and Ulysses by bestselling author Kate diCamillo has a fun, curious and complex heroine in Flora Belle Buckman. A “natural-born cynic”, Flora looks out of the window one day to see a vacuum cleaner vacuum up a squirrel… Laughs and high jinks for young readers are guaranteed.

These graphic novel adaptations of The Iliad and The Odyssey by Gareth Hinds are an excellent introduction to the Classics for young people.

The dramatic and action-packed illustrations are an excellent way into these ancient stories.

A whimsical story with wonderful illustrations about a curious little girl who decides to climb to the top of a reindeer’s very long antlers. On her climb she meets various creatures who have made the antlers their home.

I love it when you have no idea where the story is going.

We’ll bringing it to our pop-up, but I’ll also keep a copy for my kids 😉

Absolutely charmed by these illustrations from Orlando the Marmalade Cat’s 1952 Seaside Holiday by Kathleen Hale. These photographs are from a just-landed modern facsimile reprint.
