Well, I haven't really authored anything, so I don't have much to say for this one. I do agree though that the two myths you mentioned are utter crap - writing is neither easy, and if you're investing labour into your work, you ought to be paid for ut.

This passage is from A Matter of Faith, one of my current WIPs. This particular part is describing the khenedrin desert people, who are basically desert elves. Basically I just want to know how interesting they sound by the description I've written.

There were fifteen khenedrin, most of them sitting around the fire pit, watching them without a hint of surprise. Their beauty rendered Bellona speechless. They were lithe of body, all of them, with skin that shone burnt copper, light bronze and dark amber. The lobes of their ears hung down past their jaws, pointed like daggers and pierced with tiny quartz gemstones. Most of them were shorter than her, but only by a head or so, and they all sported hair that shone like molten gold.

Hardest part for me is working on the bloody things. It's not even that I don't have time to write, I just have trouble figuring out which specific time slot to write in. I often leave it too late, and end up too tired to do any meaningful work.

Bending the rules a bit here, but my first and main source of inspiration was the video game Dark Souls. The dark, hostile atmosphere of its worldbuilding really made me think "hey I want to make worlds like that".

Drafting, I'd say. Just the process of sitting down and writing out the story really engages me. I enjoy research too, so long as it doesn't eat into my writing time, and editing to me is just the process of getting the draft to read the way it was supposed to read.

I think most of the characters I've written are insufferable in one way or another, and the last people on Earth I'd hang out with. Maybe Valorean from A Soldier's Lot or Dumu from my upcoming story, but I can't imagine we'd have much in common.

A Matter of Faith - Getting peer reviewed, very very slowly.

She-Devil - Taking it out of my short story collection and making it its own thing. It's becoming too complicated for this format and I want to do it justice.

I haven't been reading much lately, but the last series I read was A Song of Ice and Fire. I especially love the dialogue between the different characters and the fact that we're never going to get closure on how the series ends.
