We welcome the focus on diversion from the criminal justice system in the report such as its focus on out of court disposals and greater investment in rehabilitation programmes - suggestions we put forward in our submission.

We continue to argue that there is no need to curtail the right to trial by jury in response to the recommendation made in Leveson's report on criminal courts published today.

This is from both a principle and practical position - juries represent society and are a fundamental part of our system.🧵

As we celebrate, we must all look to our own chambers and workplaces and ask what are they doing to accelerate the progress of women.

Are they a signatory of @thebarcouncil.bsky.social Women in Law pledge?

Have they adopted the Women In Criminal Law pledges?

If not, why not?

@cdkc.bsky.social, reflected in this month's update, "This strikes me as an excellent choice – both acknowledging how far we have come but also recognising that there is more to do".
