Yes, but covers are still important! For most people the cover is the first impression they have pf the work. And a good cover helps it stand out against the hundreds, or thousands, of other books trying to catch a reader's attention.

Good covers matter!

In fiction we like to give villains backstory and nuance as motivation for their actions to make them more "realistic," but most villains in real life are just greedy, self-centered sociopaths who enjoy hurting people different than themselves.
