SuperDraft Business in Atlanta, AFCON Ready for Kickoff in Morocco: Morning Espresso, 12.19
In today’s Morning Espresso on the SDH Network—brought to you by Oglethorpe University—we open with a conversation about “the noise” around young players and why learning to navigate it matters in professional environments. From there, it’s a full MLS SuperDraft recap, led by Atlanta United’s night: trading down from No. 2, adding allocation money, and still landing Enzo Dovlo at No. 12, along with Noah James later on, plus plenty of Atlanta and Georgia connections throughout the draft. We also cover the latest MLS roster moves, including business involving Vancouver, Austin, and D.C. United, and dig into the growing standoff between the NWSL and the Players Association over proposed roster and salary-cap mechanisms. We wrap by looking ahead to a packed weekend and beyond: AFCON kicks off Sunday in Morocco, the Premier League slate brings key matchups, and there are new developments tied to the World Cup picture—from Saudi Arabia’s 2034 planning to U.S. Soccer’s ticket lottery process.

Maresca on City’s Radar, PSG Lift Another Trophy, MLS Redraws the Map: Morning Espresso, 12.18
Intrigue in England leads the way today as Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca is reportedly high on Manchester City’s contingency list if Pep Guardiola steps away next summer. We’ll unpack what The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting, why Maresca’s City ties matter, and how the noise around Chelsea’s relationship with its supporters is becoming part of the story. Then it’s silverware season for Paris Saint-Germain again. PSG claimed the FIFA Intercontinental Cup in a shootout win over Flamengo, with goalkeeper Matvey Safonov turning into the headline act by repeatedly guessing right and coming up with the saves when it mattered most. We’ll hit the big moments, the tactical tone of the match, and what another trophy says about where PSG are heading into the next phase of the season. Finally, MLS is looking down the road. We’ll dig into The Athletic’s reporting on the proposed five-division format, what it could mean for rivalries, travel, and scheduling beginning in 2027, plus a run through the latest league notes—from SuperDraft storylines and roster moves to the latest transfer-market buzz across the league.

Washington Wins It, United Blows It (Again), and Adams’ Injury Cloud: Morning Espresso, 12.16
Manchester United scored four at Old Trafford and still couldn’t win… because this one turned into pure bedlam. On today’s Morning Espresso, we start with the College Cup final and an instant classic in Cary as Washington capped a dream postseason with a 3-2 overtime win over NC State to claim the first national championship in program history. The Huskies built a 2-0 lead, the Wolfpack roared all the way back to force extra time, and then Washington found the winner less than two minutes into overtime—celebration, video review, and all. Then we get into the chaos from Monday night in the Premier League: Manchester United and Bournemouth drew 4-4 in a game that swung three different directions and never stopped accelerating. United led, lost the plot, rallied late, and still had to settle for a point in one of the most entertaining matches of the season. And the big U.S. men’s national team concern: Tyler Adams exited after five minutes with what Bournemouth suspect could be MCL damage in his left knee. We’ll talk about what it could mean short-term, and why the bigger picture—2026—is what makes this so nerve-racking. All that, plus a quick spin through the rest of the global and domestic headlines in The Refill.

New Champions in Toluca and La Plata, and Alonso Looks a Bit Safer in Madrid: Morning Espresso, 12.15
New champions were crowned on both sides of the Americas, while the pressure eased, at least slightly, at the Bernabéu. Toluca lifted their 12th Liga MX title after a marathon final against Tigres that ended in penalty drama and another defining moment for Alexis Vega. In Argentina, Estudiantes de la Plata stunned Racing Club to win the Clausura on penalties, completing a remarkable turnaround and sealing their first league title in 15 years. In Europe, Real Madrid battled to a crucial road win at Alavés as Kylian Mbappé returned from injury and public support for Xabi Alonso surfaced amid weeks of noise around his future. We also track the Premier League title race, Chelsea’s latest off-field drama, shifting leads in Serie A and Ligue 1, Bayern’s late escape in Germany, and continued turbulence in Argentina. Plus: MLS Cup viewership records, transfer moves across Liga MX and Europe, NCAA College Cup final night, World Cup qualifying updates, and headlines from around the world in The Refill.
