Ironic Hyundai evangelist, lover of books, laugher at life. I follow the Portland Timbers and #MLS, generally, just not in long form. #rctid Pretty excited for the end of 2025, honestly. Not our best year, globally.

October 28, 2025: Coming Clean. In a Way.

This post files somewhere between honest, indulgent and autobiographical.

It's more or less on navigating the easiest challenges of a world I didn't expect to live in. And how to cope with that.

I feel mildly embarrassed after posting about a third of my skeets and erase them within minutes.

I can’t stress this enough: you cannot understand politics without reading this paragraph about why there’s no such thing as a 1/3rd pound hamburger
“All this talk of Jesus/
coming back to see us/
mmmm-mmmmm/
could’ve fooled us”

Or something like that.

Good night. #Musicsky

Fun fact (no, really. it’s fun!):

At least three early 19th-century American presidents were firmly and publicly against allowing the federal government to build a national infrastructure of any kind.

Like to the extent it was one of their things.

Thought states should do it. Individually.
Once you accept that you’re decidedly mid at pumpkin carving, a whole new world opens for you.
“ICE is safeguarding schools and places of worship by preventing criminal aliens and gang members from exploiting them as safe havens…”
- A(n anonymous) lying sack of shit who works/speaks for ICE

Statements like that read so much differently when they’re lying about where you live.

Immigration officers have hit the city of Hillsboro hard in the past two weeks. To help students and parents feel safer, staff at an elementary school and nearby middle school, along with representatives from the local teachers’ union, have responded by standing watch in the neighborhood.

ICE arrested a parent near Eastwood Elementary School last Monday. Teachers and parents have been patrolling the neighborhood every morning since.

"We are awash in bullshit. And while Bannon famously advocated a 'flood the zone with shit' strategy, it was supposed to be a way to overwhelm the opposition, not a prelude to diving in headfirst. The shit was supposed to be a weapon … but today it’s the stream that carries the GOP forward."

At a loss for words (Jesus Christ, my phone) and last night’s dreams stayed locked in my subconscious.

Good morning. Smile through it. #Musicsky

The post references the latest Spotify controversy and it's just...fuck me, why does everything have to be about/connected to everything?

I want ready access to nearly 200 years' of American music and how do I get it without tapping into something evil (e.g., Youtube)?

Grrr....

5) A Very Stupid Scandal

Briefly, a very big boat was built, with a very big gun – the “Peacemaker” (of course) – it fired big shells, the gun malfunctioned, people died.

A donor probs approved the second volley.

Tyler was already fucked. This didn't help. (7/7)

4) The Tyler Precedent

When William Henry Harrison died, *literally* no one knew how VP succession worked. With people calling him a mere caretaker, Tyler simply had himself sworn in and carried on. The House blessed it and we've been doing the same since. (6/7)

3) Slavery Made People Weird

“Acknowledging the ills of slavery, [Tyler] hoped that by letting it expand, there would be fewer slaves in the East as slaves and masters journeyed west, making it feasible to consider abolishing the institution in Virginia.”

People found ways to make peace. (5/7)
2) His Reaction Wasn’t Great, but Also Texas!

After he abandoned the Whigs and with the Democrats unwilling to welcome him back, Tyler formed a third political party – mostly to advocate for the annexation of Texas – but he still named it after himself. Yep. (4/7)

Some highlights:

1) His Adopted Party Kicked Him Out *AS* President

Henry Clay led the 1840s Whigs to the point where he thought Tyler worked for him. Things between them got bad enough (due mostly to vetoes) that the Whigs kicked him out of the party. (3/7)

"I find him to be a courageous, principled man, a fair and honest fighter for his beliefs. He was a president without a party."
- A historian

For all his faults – mostly slavery, maybe an obsessive attachment to states’ rights, Tyler was *CRAZY* principled. Examples abound. (2/7)
Now we come to the 10th president of these (sometimes) United States, John Tyler. His Accidency, annnexor (sp?) of Texas, hater of federal power, but also an eager vetoer, the first president to have cabinet appointees rejected out of spite. Busy boy... (1/7)

Guys. The Panic of 1837 was a really big deal.

I appreciate that’s not important right now, but still.
Honestly, with the way Atlanta throws money at players, I kinda want this to happen.

They have a (long-time history?) of investing in younger players, which suggests a need for coaching, which…isn’t Gio’s long suit, but still.

Thoughts? #rctid #ATLUTD

There is a *gi-fucking-normous* surplus of liberal arts majors waiting to be funded. Put all those librul college grads to use you fucking dinguses.

Also, really good thread.
By doing this, pro-democracy donors can help their activists build careers and livelihoods. This is critically important. Republicans make it easy to have a career spreading their ideas. Democrats do not. This is unsustainable for thousands of people. They give up and quit politics forever.
“Other entries on Grokipedia contain a similar slant…the ‘Islam’ page questions the religion’s ‘inherent compatibility with liberal democracy.’”

Feels less like an “Islam” problem than a pathology of fundamentalist sects.
