First they came for the immigrants, and I spoke out, because I’ve read the damn poem before and I know how it ends.

For those of you applauding Rolling Stone’s headlines/coverage, I invite you to take a look at its owner, Penske Media Corporation.

You can do the rest yourselves. It’s not pretty.

My wacky, Minnesota-born creative writing teacher in high school bravely showed a class of sheltered Floridian kids “Twin Peaks.” We were awakened. And we never looked back.

Apart from being a Barcelona souvenir, it reminded us of the bull imagery present throughout the first part of Dune (2021). And so, our little friend will be called El Toro Atreides.

My cousin, Leonard H. Miller, served in the 20th AF, flying B-29s over Japan in 33 missions, awarded an Air Medal and Oak Cluster.

North Carolina’s Atrium Health says it will forgive the debts of 11,500 people — less than a week after NBC News reported that the company has aggressively pursued former patients’ medical debts, placing liens on their homes to collect on bills.
'Like a miracle': N.C. couple free of nearly $100,000 medical debt after 15 years
The lien on Donna and Gary Lindabury's home for a 2009 heart surgery debt was among 11,500 wiped away by Atrium Health after an NBC News report.

Owls know best. Learn. But don’t absorb all the emotions, lies, wrongs, mistakes in this world. You will overload, become toxic and become part of the problem. Stay clear minded, make good decisions, and live with integrity.

After 10 incredible, creative, boundary-pushing years, my publisher and I have decided to close FRONTRUNNER. We are grateful to our friends and family for their support, and will continue to maintain the website as an archive. The next leap? The academic/real-world that is all things 007. Onward 💛

Since the 1st night of Hanukkah falls on Christmas, here’s my Festivus wish:

A better year than 2024 and…maybe 15 minutes with Barbara Broccoli 😉

To the youngsters watching, and rightfully enjoying, #Wicked: …growing up, I also relished the story of an underappreciated, supremely talented witch who saved her country and turned a sleazy, lying conman into her greatest cheerleader.

Now, I don’t know about you, but as someone who can only partially excuse (not exonerate) the brutality against women that Ian Fleming so pointedly described in his Bond novels…

…don’t think I’d call Bond a *feminist.*

Yep. Someone actually posited this at my conference last night. Unironically.

On the heels of my conference today, a shoutout to my all-time favourite Bond villainess - a force to be reckoned with both onscreen and in real life - Luciana Paluzzi.

Umm, I thought this place was supposed to be a haven for sentient, empathetic beings…all I’m seeing is a lot of apocalyptic screams with not a lot of active calls for the resistance.

Have we given up?

Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a worry-wart. Somehow, I have to find it in me to be a warrior, instead.

If so, this is always the place where I regather my strength and refill my stillness.

I count myself so lucky that Siena is my second home.

This picture of my grandparents was taken around the time I was born (round 1983, or perhaps earlier). My grandfather passed in ‘97 and my grandmother lived on until 2022. Like my ancestors during the Holocaust, I wonder whether they were now spared all of the frightening, inhuman things to come.
