طلع بنتك ولا تطلع إبنك | According to Al-Daba', it is better to allow your daughter to sleep outside the home than your son, because the daughter will know how to take care of herself better than the son, thanks to the conservative education she received.
In praise of her devoted daughter who helped her with housework.
The mother did not always discriminate between sons and daughters. All her children were dear to her.
The blessing of the house is in its multitude (in the multitude of the household members) - (Ketubot 107).
A woman is only for children (Taanit 31a).
Said about those without children and without property who left behind neither son nor possession.
The birth of a male child was blessed with "Good sign that there will be seven" or "Let there be seven".
The aspiration of fathers that women will bring them many sons, and they, for their part, bring livelihood to the house.
In the sense that the son is the pillar of the father's life, continuing the dynasty and saying Kaddish after his death for the memory of his soul.
ابن بنتي ابني وابن ابني لا | The contradiction between the two proverbs can be explained by the fact that the mother says the second version out of hatred for her daughter-in-law, while the father says the first version because his daughter's sons don't really belong to his family.
The poor have many children, like the drunkard's vomit that comes in waves.
About the abundance of children among the poor.
The poor in Babylon increased in "be fruitful and multiply" in expectation of helping hands. But in reality, the economic situation worsened even more.
About a useless child who always goes backward (like camel urine) instead of forward.
ما يثفي جسد إما يبلی جسد | About the physical and mental efforts invested by parents in raising their children. Their bodies and souls are worn out and their children grow and strengthen, body for body and soul for soul.
About the effort invested in raising children. The proverb may have intended "wealthy father" and the word "sa'id" (= "happy") was inserted only for rhyming with "hadid".
خذ الفال من (ثم) الأطفال | The belief that children, being still young, are protected from committing sins. The Creator in His mercy has bestowed upon them the holy spirit and put the wisdom of the hidden in their mouths.
المفلس (العريان) بالقفة (بالقافلة) أمين | Even if bandits attack a caravan, they have nothing to rob from a poor or bankrupt person. "A rich man's wealth may be his ransom, but a poor man hears no threat."
| One who has no property does not fear theft, just as a mouse has no interest in a blacksmith's shop and cannot cause damage.
| Just as there's nothing to steal from a mosque except mats, so one who has no property does not fear theft.
Similar to the previous proverb. One who has no reason to worry won't worry, and one who has a reason to fear has something to fear.
In the sense of - the hat burns on the thief's head. About someone with a guilty conscience who acts suspiciously.
Said about someone who deposits their money or property with a thief or deceiver.
ادهن السير (القايش) وسير (يمشي الشغل) | Said about bribery and corruption among government officials. Their work is like a production machine, whose wheels move by means of a belt that stops if not greased.
