Romy puts their phone down on the nightstand, trying to hold back more tears. 'It... it's fine. It was probably just a telebarketer or something.' A spooky "ooooooooooo..." diverts Romy's attention again, and the sigh in relief to see it was just coming from the window. "J-just the wind outside..." The lean their head out through the window and over the balcony. 'I thought I could leave my old life behind. But nothing's changed. As usual. I'm still just as hopeless as ever.' They sniff, wiping their tears away. Then they silently make their way to bed. They lay there upright, their covers pulled up to their face, and eyes open wide with restlessness. 'Tomorrow. It's got to be different tomorrow. I can't be the same shy Romy I was in New Bork.' They toss over to the side, looking rather sad. 'I just need to... try harder. That's all.'

Romy and Boone look at each other and share some kind of silent communication. Boone then slants his eyes and addresses Echo. "Say, Echo. I've been meaning to ask..." The three of them continue walking over the hill, down toward the gas station. "It seems like you know a whole lot more about what's goin' on with Slumber than we do. Like the waking nightmares. And people losin' stuff." He recounts private conversations between Dallas, Echo and Walt, of which he and Romy were not included. "You 'n Dallas have been interviewing lotsa folks. Like that Walt guy. And tryin' to figure out the whole memory loss thing... haven't you?" Echo's glasses give a knowing *shing* as she is privy to Boone's digging and nosiness. He covers his ears with a self-conscious "EEK!!!" He apologies, "I'm sorry - I'M SORRY! I know how you feel about the eavesdropping. It's just -" He gives her a more concerned look, "If you found out somethin' REALLY serious... you'd tell me 'n Romy about it, right?"

Romy's phone, on the floor, is blasting the lyrics to "Here Comes the Sun" as a ringtone. Romy leans over to pick it up. They look at the screen, puzzled. 'Impossible. My phone isn't getting any service.' They shakily lift a hesitant finger toward it. 'I should really try to answer it. The call could be important. But...... I can't. It can't could be ANYONE on the other end. Especially coming from a number like this. But... if I don't answer, I might miss out the chance to reach my mom...' They try to motivate themselves to answer it. 'Come on, just answer the phone. Answer it. Before it stops ringing...' It stops ringing, and the screen displays 'Missed Call' on the screen. Romy rolls over onto the bed, the phone falling out of their paw. 'Nnngh... too late.'

A huge establishing shot transitions the scene to outside, on the outskirts of town. It's a bright sunny day, and Romy, Boone and Echo are traversing down a path over a hill that overlooks the downtown Slumber area. You can see a lot of familiar buildings off in the distance, including the Lost and Found where they embarked from. On the hill, there's a closed Administration building and signs to Route 66, Fuel in less than 1 mile. The gang are following a wooden sign with a red painted arrow on it, and Boone is still unknowingly in his underwear. Echo: "I'll be honest. I'm a little worried. Alex has never wandered away overnight. And so far from the town's borders." They continue walking. Echo: "Aside from Ed, we haven't really seen people wander the outskirts of town for long stretches of time. But people have been heading out to the desert a lot more often." Echo leans over, deep in thought. "And Alex... well, he's juts a kid. I have to imagine how he's holding up out there alone."

Romy's eyes widen with realization. They suddenly start looking around the room apprehensively. 'Uh. Wait a minute. I don't have my bags. I didn't... bring anything with me?' They pace around the room, nervousness growing. 'But... I've got a few things. My bags. The clothes on my back. That bit of pocket change from earlier.' They slip their cellphone out of their hoodie pocket. 'And... my phone. That's still there, too.' They place a finger to the touch screen. 'Speaking of which... I should message my mom to let her know I got here safely. Let's see...' The phone screen reveals a lack of service and inability to connect from the location. The time is 3:00. 'Oh, geez. Maybe not, then.' They sit down on the bed with a hand to their confused head, a tear in their eye. 'I'm so confused. Why would I travel so light if I KNEW I was moving here. It just doesn't make any sen -" Their phone starts blasting music, and Romy flings it into the air in surprise!

A beam of light shines down from a sun in a black and starry sky, suddenly night - and zaps down on Boone's glasses, the Aries constellation, Lester's bottle, the Cancer constellation, Echo's glasses, the Scorpio constellation, then hurdles toward an unprepared Romy. Romy: "YIPE!" 'I forgot! I need...' Realizing they need a reflective surface of their own, they quickly hold up their cellphone to catch the light. A large establishing shot reveals the beam of light hitting the center of Romy's phone screen, and they fall back a little and wince from the brightness of it. You can see the path of the light beams in the background. Boone gasps with dramatic and comedic shock, Echo tilts her glasses casually, and Lester is seen from behind, probably clueless about what's going on. The light beam then strikes the Pisces contellation before zooming directly into the rock wall at high speed, creating a BOOM! explosion in bright red, yellow and blue colors. A bleating scream arises, causing Romy and Echo to look over at their friend. Boone's glasses are blacked out, and he's screaming in agony. "MY EYES! I've gone blind! BLIND!!! In the prime of my life!" He then tilts his glasses up, revealing that his eyes are perfectly fine. He giggles, "Just kiddin'. Hehe." Echo gives him a gentle smack on the cheek, which Boone takes with affectionate(?) acceptance. Echo then turns to Romy, smiling in affirmation. "Ya did it, Romy! See what I mean? A bit of confidence makes all the difference." Romy hunches over shyly. "Y-yeah. I... can't believe it..." Boone also smiles, rubbing his cheek, "Incredi-edible, if you asked me. Like that puzzle was made for you." Echo gives a peace sign. "Of course. It was ALL you. Making things up as you go along!" The wording of it puts Romy off suddenly. 'So, like... I made up the puzzle BEFORE I even solved it?" They frown, and Echo notices their change of expression and frowns too. 'Was any of it REAL? If it was all just made up in my head... maybe I'm not so incredible after all.' Echo's hand meets Romy's shoulder. "Hey." Romy looks over to see Echo smiling back. "Good work, pup. Seriously." She puts her hands on her hips in a more determined stance. "And now that you've opened that path, we're free to discover what horrors lie ahead!" Romy, sweating nervously, "Uh. H-horrors... ?" Boone holds up the his compass in a blaze of passion; the compass has a cat head that looks like Alex in the center, and Lester is seen underneath Boone's arm, looking annoyed like his withdrawal is already hitting. Boone: "It might be the ONLY way forward, but it's also the RIGHT way forward! The all-knowing compass seems to agree." He tosses the compass to Romy, who holds out their paws despite being caught off guard. Boone: "Here!" He points on ahead. "I'll leave the trackin' to you, pal. I'm gonna scout ahead for booby traps!" He starts gallivanting away, and is stopped suddenly by Echo's hand grabbing his horn. "Not so fast." While retaining her grip on him, the two of them turn to face the giant entryway in the rockface, where nothing can be seen ahead in the pitch black. Echo: "Dark corridors... they hold a certain energy. So stick close. And don't wander."

Boone looks back at the others, completely unaware of the fact that he is no longer wearing his pants - revealing instead a pair of corn-patterned underwear that really accentuates the butt cheeks. He is turned toward the door with his backpack on, looking otherwise very prepared. There's also a mat by the door that says "Wipe Your Hooves". Echo crosses her arms and smirks, looking fairly amused. "Snrk. It's nothing. Are you sure you've got everything?" Boone narrows his eyes and gives her a bit of attitude. "PLEASE, Echo. What kind fool do you take me for?" Echo, smiling: "Just checkin', that's all. Let's get going!" Romy, meanwhile, is blushing incredibly hard, embarrassed for Boone.

Romy stares silently at the whooshing curtains, recieving no answer. She proceeds to the door of her room, turning the key in the knob while waving apologetically. "I'm just gonnaaaaaaaaa... stay here for the night. If that's okay." They enter the dark room, slam the door immediately shut, then gradually slide down into a sitting position. They breathe a sign of relief. 'Whew. A quiet room. At last.' They survey the fairly normal room cast in an eerie glow, with their paws in their pockets and kneeds to their chest. 'I should probably get ready for bed now. It's... a little creepy here, but maybe if I start unpacking, I can make it feel like home?'

Boone blushes and grins, ears flapping with glee. "Aw, GEE! You got my beard all flustered!" He laces an arm around Romy's shoulder, who also blushes from his praise. "But seriously, can't remember the last time I felt so confident with my packin'! Thanks, Rom-ster!" He struts off confidently with his head high, Heather looking down and over with a bit of a concerned expression. Echo tussles Romy's head. "He's right. I'm pretty impressed. Who know a bit of therapy was all he needed to -" Echo and Romy then notice something askew, causing Echo to look up with an "Oh", Romy to blush even harder, Heather to look away awkwardly and Piper to gasp with an extremely amused expression.

Romy tentatively raises a paw and places it gently over the surface of the elevator. They close their eyes and breathe in the scent deeply. '.... it's like... there's someone there... but I can't quite -' They take their paw away suddenly. "YIPE!" They ascend the stairs quickly up a dark hallway, looking slightly rattled. 'I'm... sure I'm just imagining it. It's been a long day. I just need to... to...' They peer around the corner down a spooky hallway, where a single light illuminates an open window with ragged curtains and a whistling wind. Romy shivers and speaks up, "E-excuse me... is there a spirit here?"

Piper holds up her camera, showing it to Heather. "Oh, NUTS! I gotta get to work on the next 'Slumber Times'! We needta spread it around, like... ASAP!" Heather responds to Piper, as Boone holds up a hat in the background. Heather: "I'll have Sky help us make fliers. With everyone searching, we're bound to find him in no time." Boone places the hat on Romy's head. It's a brown baseball cap with a Pisces symbol on it. He also adorns his head with pink-lens sunglasses, and he's now wearing a blue and pink patchwork jacket as well. Boone: "A hat for yooooooou! Glasses for meeeeeee!" He rubs his chin, "Let's see... humm..." He double-checks through his bag. "Snacks, inside pocket. Bottles, bottom left... compass, rope, first aid... duh dah dum..." His eyes widen in surprise. "Wow. I think that's everything." Romy gives him two encouraging thumbs up, while Echo observes the interaction with interest. Romy: "Nice work, Boone. I knew you could do it!"

There's a closeup of the key, which is wrapped in spider web with a tiny note that says "2A" stuck onto it. Romy: 'Room 2A. Just like the note said.' Romy picks up the key and looks at it. 'I'm a little unsettled by all this. But I guess with nobody here, I won't have to talk to anyone, at least.' They suddenly remember something. "Oh, right!" They shuffle around in their pocket and place some cash and change on the front desk - the currency has faces of various canine presidents on them. 'I hope this motel accepts New Bork currency...' Romy starts to walk down the hall, sniffing and following a scent, while a strange ghost hand seems to approach them from behind. Romy stops, something catching their attention and causing them to shiver. '... um...' They look up at the elevator, stuck on the third floor of three, with an Out of Service sign taped to the door. 'Something... feels OFF here.'

Boone begins listing out the things he needs aloud. "First things first, we need... a bag! Bag bag bag..." He grabs a couple of energy bars. "Water? Snacks? Or could we just manifest that on our own? I'll pack 'em anyway." He slips a bottle with a sun on it into the backpack pocket. "Proper sun protection... in the side pocket!" He holds up a compass excitedly. "And uhhhhhh OH! A compass! We've got one of those! What else, what else..." He shows off a comic book edition of 'Iowa Joan' Survival Guide, a parody of Indiana Jones, "Ah! Of course! One simply can't forget the essential Iowa Joan Survival Guide!" As Boone continues searching around the room, Echo calmly wraps up the conversation with Heather. "Cool. That's be the plan, then. We'll meet back at your place when we find 'im." Boone: "Shampoo? Nah... Romy's hat though! She'll want that! And speaking of..."

Romy enters the motel, and flips their hood off their head while looking around the lobby. 'There's nobody at the front desk. Weird...' They start musing a bit more nervously. 'Maybe this place is abandoned? Is it too late to leave and find somewhere el -' A piece of paper falls down in front of her face, shocking her. "WHAAA!!!" They pluck the piece of paper off the string, where it seems to be hanging from the ceiling. "... huh?" The paper is a note that says "Welcome to my resting place! Hehe! Room 2A is *vacant*. Make yourself at home. -W". Romy looks around once again. 'Who could have written this note? And where -" Another string bobs down from the ceiling with a key attached, causing Romy to fall backwards. "ARF!!!'

Echo nonchalantly remarks, "I suppose today's as good a day as any for a roadtrip." Boone gasps dramatically with stars in his eyes. "ROADTRIP?!" He then starts freaking out, "Wait - HAYSTACKS! That means I gotta pack! I just KNOW I'm gonna forget something!" Romy gives his arm a timid poke. "Do you... remember what we practiced?" Boone recalls a day where Romy is seen following him around in the grocery store, nodding along as he lists out various foods out loud. "Oh! The uh... wahtchamacallit..." He snaps his fingers as he recalls. "That's RIGHT! Auditory recall!"

There's a wide establishing shot, where Romy is seen stopped on their bike in front of a very shabby and worn-down looking building. There are three windows that are mostly broken and/or crooked with cobwebs hanging out several corners. The address is 999, and there's a big wooden sign that says "MOTEL" sticking out from the side. Romy, looking up at it: '.... this must be it. The road ends here. And I haven't passed any other buildings up to this point.' They fiddle uncertainly with the doorhandle. 'Only one way to find out for sure...' They creak open the door and peek their head inside a brightly lit room, shivering and sweating anxiously. "... h-hello?"

Heather scolds a grinning Piper, Boone laughs, and Romy gives the sweater a petrified look. Heather: "PIPER! What have I said about shoving dirty clothes in peoples's faces?" Piper: "Oops! Sorry!" Romy with an offputting smile: 'I... don't think this shirt's been washed for... a while.' She then concentrates on the scent with her eyes closed, which gives her the image of Alex on a wooden swing, wearing the same shirt. 'But the scent is distinct. I need to familiarize myself with it. Especially with everyone counting on me...' Heather sighs in relief. "Thanks, guys. I know it's a weird request. But if anyone can find him..." Boone interrupts excitedly, swooping Romy and Echo up in one arm while saluting with the other. "The terrific trio CAN! And WILL!!!"

Romy sighs a breath of relief. 'I don't know who she is. But I'm glad she showed up when she did.' She starts riding her bike past the water tower. 'I wonder if that hotel really is haunted? I guess I don't have any better options...' She looks up at the stars and smiles. "... mmm..." She continues riding her bike under the setting sun in a starry purple sky, past canyons and cactuses. 'I've never been in a town so quiet and desolate. Slumber isn't at ALL like New Bork... but I like that. Hardly anyone here. And the night sky is so clear. It looks like the stars could stretch on forever. Really puts into perspective how small the world is. How small I am. It makes being alone... a little less lonely. And somehow, it makes me feel like everything is gonna turn out okay." She comes to a screeching halt.

Heather tugs at her ear absentmindedly while going off on an explanation. In the background, we can see flashbacks of her asking Sky about where Alex is, Piper trying to take a picture of Alex with her camera only to find out he's disappeared, and Sky and Heather chuckling with relief to discover Alex eating cookies in the pantry, while Piper gasps dramatically. Heather: "That kit is always getting himself lost. Here one minute, gone the next. He's never too far off, though. Usually just caught up in a bit of mischief." Zoom-in on Heather's face. "But this time, he disappeared overnight." She continues from the other side of the desk toward an attentive Romy and Echo, and a Boone with his attention diverted elsewhere. "We've searched every corner of the house! The town, too. There really is no trace of him anywhere..." Echo: "Weird. You said you brought something with his scent on it?" Heather laughs, "OH YEAH! We thought Romy might be able to track him that way." Romy sweats nervously, "W-well... I'm no scenthound, but -" Piper suddenly interjects by shoving a striped cloth over Romy's snout. "HERE! HIS SHIRT!!!"

Echo points to a map using a giant stick. The map shows where the three of them currently are, across from the saloon, library, arcade and a building labelled 136. An arrow points north and to the left, where the hotel is located. Echo: "No problem! Keep going straight past the saloon until you hit a wall. The take a left from the water tower. The path should lead you there the rest of the way!" She pulls Lester's paw. "Aaaaaas for you..." Les: "Hrrm... ?" Echo makes a sheepish expression. "We should probably get you to bed before you cause any more, er... 'public disturbances'. Come on." Lester yells excitedly as Echo leads him away, "Woooooo, YEAH! We're holdin' paws! I guess it's a date, then? GAHAHA! *hic*!" Echo: "Keep your voice down. The diurnals are trying to sleep... and I'm trying not to get tinnitus..." Romy looks back at Echo from atop her bike, with a smile.

Piper, a young-red squirrel kid standing next to Heather, leans over the desk and yells, "IT'S ALEX! WE LOST ALEX!!!" Romy asks, "Alex?" Piper: "Uh-huh! Uh-huh! He really poofed for GOOD this time!" Boone puts an arm around Romy to explain, "Ah. That's Piper. She 'n Alex 'n Sky all live together with Heather." We see a flashback of Heather with the three kids: Piper, a squirrel, Alex, a kitten, and Sky, a deer, standing alongside Heather as Boone muses, "Can't remember if I ever introduced you..." Piper hands Romy a photograph. "Mm-hm! I have Alex's picture too. See?" We see the photo of a young brown tabby kitten with a bell collar, slightly serious and unsmiling.

Lester starts flirting with a stone-faced Echo. "Eeeeeechooooo, BABY! I must say the moon in your - uh... glasses... brings out the sweet caress of your shining eyes... !" Echo chides him: "Settle down, Les. You know you're not my type. Far from it..." She continues to lecture him as Romy listens from afar. "Don't you have anything better to do than scaring that poor little dog? Or... let me guess... you're probably waiting for your personal escort to walk you home." Lester laughs boisterously. "GAHAHA! *hic!* How perceptive of you, my good lady... to come to such a fine gentleman in need! Haha!" Echo, unamused, "Tch, yeah. Predictable." She then turns to Romy. "Anyway, more importantly... hey there, new girl! Need help finding that hotel?" Romy, brought to attention, "Oh... YES! Yes, I... that's exactly... thank you."
