It's impressive how much TTRPG Discourse goes like this, "This mechanic sucks in all forms because one time I played a game under a dude who didn't read the rules and was huffing paint, and it went badly. So the only conclusion I can draw is any variation on this mechanic is garbage."

I've been told countless times I'd be a far more successful YouTuber if I focused on Fantasy TTRPGs instead of Horror and Sci-Fi.
Probably true. But those games don't give me sci-fi heroes stranded on a 1950s planet battling robot-zombies.

I'll add that declaring your character's intended result of that action is equally important. If the GM knows what the player is hoping to accomplish, it's far more probable to happen and also not cause confusion of intent.

If you run D&D or other RPGs away from home, one of these bad boys is invaluable.
You can arrange scenario notes, etc. in the hanging folders inside. Your rule books can also slide in!

There's no need to use newspeak terms like "unalive" "SA" or "Pron" to avoid demonetization or strikes. It's not words. It's context.
