2019 – THE YEAR THAT TRANSFORMED CYCLING (mega thread) 🧵

A few weeks ago, I was thinking about what events have actually changed men’s cycling in recent history and after some time, I started to see a pattern – a lot of things that transformed cycling into what it is now happened in the year 2019.

🇸🇮 Primož Roglič on the 2026 ambitions with 🇩🇪 Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe

"We need to sit down, think carefully about what is possible and what is not. Above all, I want real things. Realistic conversations and realistic goals."

I've always thought he had loads of potential but his time at Jayco has not been the best so this could be a perfect restart, at a team with lots of ambition

Just read on the Le Gruppetto forum that Welay Hagos Berhe is linked with a transfer to Unibet Tietema Rockets 🤔 seems like an interesting transfer, is there anyone here who knows the source of these reports?

Greetings to #CyclingBlueSky from 🇷🇴! I went on a little trip to this nice country and will still be here tomorrow so won't be able to watch Il Lombardia 🙁 Hot take: that promising guy from Slovenia, Pogačar, might be good! Watch out for him! 👀

Here's the explanation of SPD

And then there is SPD (short for Freedom and Direct democracy) which are led by a Japanese guy who is paradoxically against migration, anti-EU, anti-NATO, anti-government etc. They would never enter the government as they like their position of complaining about everything but never doing anything.

ANO are populist, they say what they think is trendy at the moment. For example a couple of years ago they were saying that we need to start using the Euro and now they're saying that we should never accept it as it would mean the loss of our national identity 😅

Btw this Japanese guy has an older brother who is a member of the Christian party (which is member of SPOLU, the governmental party) and then he has a younger brother who is gay, which is another group of people he is against 😅

Then there is the "Stačilo!" party. Basically the communists and the traditional social democrats didn't get into the parliament for the first time ever in 2021 so this year, 104 years after splitting away, they joined forces and are leading an EU-sceptical, anti-government campaign.

Btw just to explain some context: the Motorist party is led by a guy who is a big petrol head, hates the electric cars, is a neo-Nazi, was accused of domestic violence and was seen multiple times speeding on highways but sadly, many young people see him as a perfect man and are gonna vote for him.
simiscyclist.bsky.social
The thing is, yes, they haven't been the best government but right now there is literally no-one else who is democratic and can get into the parliament so we kind of have to hope that they can amass 101 MPs so that they can create a government again. Otherwise we will become another Slovakia.
simiscyclist.bsky.social
Our hope lies on SPOLU (transl. Together), a coalition of 3 centrist/right-wing parties, STAN (short for Mayors and independent) and the Pirates. These guys have been in the current government but many people are now disappointed in them as they've done virtually nothing in the past 4 years.
simiscyclist.bsky.social
Both of these parties are expected to have somewhere around 5-10 % so just above the 5 % threshold. But even if they don't get in, ANO could still get silent support from SPD who are (unlike in 🇩🇪) another neo-Nazi party led by a Japanese guy.
simiscyclist.bsky.social
The populist party ANO led by a former communist spy Andrej Babiš (already a PM 2017-21) is expected to win. They most likely won't be able to create a government by themselves but support from the Motorist party and "Stačilo!" (transl. Enough!), which are just rebranded communists, is expected.
