i think the thing i've been enjoying the most about melodies of atonement so far is despite it having some pretty heavy moments overall it's kind of a really chill album

i think it's bc i work on w/e part i feel like at the time. i generally do some small misc scenes on my phone but i'm usually a hard chronological progress person & tbh, i think that is a significant part of my problem. but having thousands of words of random scenes feels less like progress to me :(

work on the WIP slowed pretty significantly but i've still had a regular trickle of progress which is making me cautiously optimistic it wasn't just another temporary hyperfixation i immediately beat the dopamine out of and will immediately drop

Idk how much control trad authors have w/ marketing but i feel if they don't like it they can market the old way, & if they hate authors that use it they can not read them? 😅 i mostly agree w/ the critiques but i am a very shrug-&-move-on dude when it comes to ppl doing things i find mildly annoying

Yeah i was wondering the other day if it's going to be a generational thing or if it's here to stay but it only seems to be increasing from what i've noticed, that's probably why I'm noticing a little more complaining and pushback about it.

oh for sure i've seen a few authors do ones that are nonspecific or silly and i like those a little more, i can tell they have fun coming up with them. like one of the authors i follow had "the priest has a boob window" on his and it got a chuckle out of me. like he sure does! 😂

on one hand mass consumption of art + capitalism packaged into a cutesy trope sucks, but man with tradpub + the indie scene there are just so many books, people can use them as ways to cut to specific things they want to read

100%! it bugs me bc it gives away so many things that we should just experience in the story on its own, not to mention folks that *start* their books from a trope list and end up with something thin and underdeveloped because of it.

tbh about it the fact that so many indie romance writers use trope lists is prolly why some tradpub folks get such sticks up their asses about it lmao yeah the people who know nothing about that market & do nothing but call our books slop really have good advice on how to reach our community lol

my completely pulled-out-of-my-ass theory is there is some significant overlap in the fanfic & romance crowd (if not the same readers, then people with similar interests) and that when you're just digging for hyperspecific things you like trope lists?

now people who only post tropes and no synopsis to the point where you're like "okay but what is this book actually ABOUT" is kind of a pain

you probably shouldn't, say, be slapping them all over like. tradpub YA or fantasy. yeah you should write a good blurb it's not an ao3 fic. but generally in the indie romance scene i've seen a sizable number of people do shop by tropes even if that annoys me personally i still will prolly make one

minor grump as a nobody writer but the complaining from ppl about trope lists annoys me sometimes bc on one hand yeah i also do not like them! & would prefer not to use them. but i have seen multiple indie / romance novelists say they noticeably increase the reach / sales of the books so 🤷‍♂️

it's barely been a week and the combination of what scenes i've worked on + my scratchwork document is almost 21k 💀 (I mean 6.5k of it is actually like, implemented in to the chapters but still) i am losing a lil steam but havent stopped yet so hurray for however longer this hyperfixation will last
