I want to add I'm fairly new to metal's lore (and almost completely ignorant of archie metal) so I don't know if a scenario like this has ever played out, and if it has I imagine its basically just been option 1 or 2

4. Error: Metal is meant to copy sonic so what happens when he dies? (in this scenario im imagining eggman is gone so basically his creator isnt there to give him a new purpose) I imagine he basically goes into standby mode trying to figure out what to do.

I had the idea that someone had to be collecting what the semibots were extracting, so i made the "work bots" also nicknamed the "greater bots" because they are stronger than semibots and have offensive capabilities.
