i agree with this, and i think it’s all relative.

when i say yoshida is a bad person, it is that he is a cog in the machine that perpetuates the fascism of public safety.

i could say denji is a bad person, but i also understand it is a lot more nuanced than that.

there is a lack of belief in himself, resigned to what ultimately befalls him and the role he plays. it is like a fantasy to do otherwise, and he cannot stray away, much like how denji cannot bring himself to give up being chainsaw man.
