Yup, you read that right! In the final months of 3DS online, I managed to successfully get enough friends to access all 191 Pokemon in the XY Friend Safari, and I plan on shiny hunting all of them!

Regretting getting the Hori Split Pad as my turbo controller for the Switch 1. Turbo controllers seem very useful for shiny hunting in Z-A, but I can't use the Split Pad on the Switch 2 since it's a non-wireless controller that slides directly on the Joy-Con railings for the Switch 1.

I hadn't been spoiled on what shiny Mega Drampa looked like, and it was such a treat to see it in-game! The yellow complements the storm clouds nicely, it's like a big thunderbolt! 🥰

Shiny Drampa after 292 encounters (after starting to do this hunt properly!) My first actual Z-A hunt, and my goodness, shinies are so plentiful in this game. In the 2 days I was hunting this, I found a total of 23 shinies! 😱

So I phased 14 times (one Kangaskhan not pictured here bc I gave it to my wife) before I got an inkling I may be doing something wrong... turns out flying to the gate for the wild zone doesn't actually respawn the Drampa because it's too far away. You have to run to and from the Drampa. D'oh! 😫

This wasn't too painful at least, took probably less than 10 matches overall. Still really sucks to lock new mega evolutions behind time-limited, online-only events though.

Catch rates are abysmal in Z-A even with the fully-upgraded plush, stealth options are far more limited, Pokemon automatically seeing you after one breakout sucks, no equivalent for Heavy or Feather Balls limits how you can approach catches... yeah, PLA is still the king of making catching fun.

I still don't think it's toppling PLA as my favorite Switch Pokemon game. Even though the battling is undoubtedly better in Z-A, and the story is arguably better as well... my favorite part of any Pokemon game is catching, and the catching process feels significantly worse than PLA.

Rolled credits on Z-A, and wow. I think it's kind of retroactively improved my opinion of X and Y - the games I've long considered to be the weakest among the main series. So much of that game felt like it was setting up for a payoff that never happened, but now that it's finally happened, man.

And when I confirmed it did, they had to basically decide which pronouns made them less uncomfortable when starting their game. Which sucks! That shouldn't have to be a necessary choice when making a character to represent yourself.

Tbh I'm personally comfortable with he/him, so I didn't think much of it when I started my game. But what got me really thinking about this was when my wife, who exclusively uses they/them, asked me to start the game first and confirm if the game did use gendered pronouns.
