I really have to stop politics posting
Economic burdensomeness and the talk of "cultural cohesion" is about the perceived threat "undesirable migrants" (a plastic category) pose to "our way of life".

Its straightforwardly fascist, destined to terminate in national suicide.
The closest analogues here are Nazi Germany’s early deportations and maybe Britain and France’s interwar “undesirable alien” laws. I don't think I'm exaggerating in saying that.
Katie Lam has made a video - focusing on not giving new ILR grants to people who don't have it

But quietly including the Conservative proposal to be the first government since Idi Amin in 1972 to revoke the permanent leave to remain, then expel: she underplays to what extent

This is precisely what I meant when I said immunological politics is suicidal
the tories are proposing to deport 5-7% of the UK's (legal) population

not of immigrants, of all of us
Sorry Ludwig, but the man has a chainsaw for a head. I'm sure you understand.
Informed that F wants me to watch Chainsaw Man with him over two sittings so he can prepare for the movie. Of course, this means that I cannot read Wittgenstein tonight
I try to minimise posting about politics because I am, by almost every measure, a doomer; but I think Byung-Chul Han posting is allowed because it's almost religion posting, which is allowed
Stranding several billion ETs on Earth to end the male loneliness epidemic
This has been a ludicrously long thread for the analysis of basically three pages of text. But I had a bunch of cancellations at work and I didn't feel like doing any CPD.
The autoimmunological implications of this kind of society terminates in what Virilio called the suicidal state of facism.
Ours is what I once defined as a society of stimulation: it is characterized by chronic hyper-activation of attention, affect, desire, and the simultaneous use of immunological social defenses against foreign outsiders and its own subjects at the same time.
On a PNI-informed model, the system attacks outsiders through immunological defense, undermines its own structural lifeblood in autoimmune, and produces endogenous subjects driven to nervous collapse by hyperstimulation and relentless pressures of a hyper-competitive cultre.
In an autoimmunological politics, society attacks outsiders to and its own members (racialised others, migrants, students, trans people) to preserve its identity in ways that are analogous to autoimmune disorders.
Indeed, psychoneuroimmunology is a relatively young field that is seeking to provide insight into autoimmune disorders. In the simple terms by which I have a very limited understanding of it:

Autoimmunity results from systemic miscommunication between the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems.
Indeed, if we take psychoneuroimmunology as our guiding metaphor, immunological and neuronal politics communicate, reinforce, and co-produce each other, attempting to produce a a multiscalar, feedback-driven system of social regulation.
After all, if we take the immunological and neurological images seriously, we are forced to see that the immune and nervous systems are part of an integrated system.
There'svno reason to assume that immunological (borders, identities, exclusion) and neuronal forms of power (attention, desire, mental health) can't or don't operate simultaneously, reinforcing each other in an attempt at producing complex, multilayered systems of control.
Rather, I only mean to point out that there is no reason for us to suppose a rupture has taken place, or that immunological and neuronal power can't operate in tandem.
For all that, I don't mean to suggest that Han's critique of the relentless positivity of neuronal power isn't real, or that we don't live in an achievement society, as he later defines it.
"In a system dominated by the Same, it is meaningless to strengthen defense mechanisms" (p.4-5). But we have seen that this is precisely the opposite — if you'll forgive the Zizek-ism — of what a system dominated by the Same is driven to do.
This is important because Han thinks that the transition from an immunological to a post-immunological condition can partially be explained by appealing to the displacement of the negativity of immune responses, to the excessive surplus positivity of the achievement society: neuronal power.
