🖊️ EDITOR'S NOTES 🖊️

On a grubby door in Balham market, London, I spotted this letterbox. Much more intriguing than the unadorned door furniture available today. Even the L and S of LETTERS are embellished with scrollwork. See more at bit.ly/DoorsofLondon. SR.

What tribute more fitting for a book filled with Classical entrances than to make it into a high temple of the Classical Revival! ‘Doors of London’ is displayed on the mahogany Book of the Month lectern for the whole of June.
BOOKSPOTTING
This month our new book ‘Doors of London’ is getting the full mahogany treatment. You could say it has arrived! Here it is in the hallowed halls of London clubland, displayed on a mahogany lectern and announced as Book of the Month on a mahogany sign holder. SR.

Cast ne’re a clout till May be out. But if the forecasters are right, soon we’ll be seeing bees in the garden again. For cautionary tales about these and other hazards, turn to Harry Graham’s ruthless rhymes in ‘When Grandmama Fell Off The Boat’ at bit.ly/giftsSP.

We got lucky in the ‘New Camden journal’ last week when Maggie Gruner wrote up our book ‘Doors of London’, re-imagining all the people who had passed through them and brought them to life.

Clearing out the kitchen cupboards, I came across an Ian Logan cake tin. In the Swinging Sixties, Ian created a pioneering line of homeware with this Middle Eastern-inspired motif. Now he has indulged another design passion with a railway art book, bit.ly/logomotive.

It was an evening of talk about architecture in architecture, and what bound the two together? A passion for design and decoration.
Thanks so much to The Authors' Club and @schulercj.bsky.social for inviting @househistorian.bsky.social and I along to The National Liberal Club last week to chat about 'Doors of London'!

Spending Christmas in the Suffolk coastal town of Aldeburgh gave me an opportunity to do a bit of casual door spotting, and what I found fully confirmed this former sea port's reputation as a treasure trove of architectural detail. SR. #architecture #doors #doorspotting
