Raccoons are one of the most common mammals seen in the USA that aren't domesticated. They're extremely smart, proven by several studies, to have the ability to solve puzzles and pick locks using their incredible memories. Their teeth are interesting too....
A night, black and white photo from my garden showing a raccoon sitting down facing the camera. It's holding its front paws together close to the ground. Its black face mask and nose are visible as are its little, roundish raccoon ears. Its mouth is slightly open giving a look at its teeth including its canine teeth. There are plants and shrubs to the side of the raccoon and behind it. There are small landscaping rocks on the ground.

His attempt at looking powerful. What a mouthy lump of nothing.

Our weather dipped down below 45 F for the first time this season. Glad I put hummingbird food out. Here is a little feeder on the back end of my house and the little hummingbird is in silhouette. #Birds

Watching them is so enjoyable.

Or they now have a new pet and can only afford to care and provide for one.
Pet Pantries help enormously!

Yes, there are some sad scenarios.

I didn't mean to imply that the majority of owners are after losing a pet no longer wanting them. I think that in some cases, some are now in a different place in their lives.💔

We just had a 10 year old tortie reclaimed who came in yesterday, microchipped. She went missing when her owner moved 3-4 years ago. ❤️

Microchip your pets! And just bc a pet is left behind when a neighbor moves, it doesn't mean they were purposely abandoned.

That's wonderful they were reunited and can fully enjoy each other's special companionship again.🫶

100% agree! As a senior person myself, I worry Stewie will somehow get past us at a door. We have a deep wooded lot behind our steep sloped back yard. We check and double check.
